Jewish leaders react to Duterte's Holocaust remarks
Jewish leaders have reacted angrily after Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte compared his anti-drug campaign to the Holocaust.
The comment - wrongly citing numbers killed by the Nazis - was inhumane and deeply offensive, they said.
Mr Duterte said he would kill as many addicts as Hitler did Jews in his crackdown on users and dealers.
"Hitler massacred three million Jews... there's three million drug addicts. I'd be happy to slaughter them," he said.
"What President Duterte said is not only profoundly inhumane, but it demonstrates an appalling disrespect for human life that is truly heart-breaking for the democratically elected leader of a great country," said World Jewish Congress president Ronald S. Lauder as he demanded an apology.
US-based Jewish group the Anti-Defamation League said the comments were "inappropriate and deeply offensive", with communications director Todd Gutnick saying it was "baffling why any leader would want to model himself after such a monster".
Rabbi Abraham Cooper, of the US-based Simon Wiesenthal Center, said Mr Duterte owed "[Holocaust] victims an apology for his disgusting rhetoric".

A six-year-old boy who was shot at a Townville school has died after being taken off life support by his family.
Jacob Hall was shot in the leg at Townville Elementary School in Townville, South Carolina, on Wednesday.
Fourteen-year-old Jesse Osborne is accused of opening fire on the school after murdering his father Jeffrey at their nearby home.
He currently faces one count of murder and two of attempted murder at Anderson County Court.
On Saturday Jacob was taken off life support at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
His parents have released a statement thanking the community for its support.
'We appreciate the community’s support, especially the Townville Rescue Squad who treated Jacob onsite and brought him to the hospital,' Rodger and Renae Hall told Fox News.

Good news, everyone! Michelle Obama’s former assistant, Kristen Jarvis, is getting married to one of the President’s former Secret Service agents. While the President himself will not be attending, Michelle Obama is expected to make an appearance — and Malia and Sasha Obama are even going to be bridesmaids! It’s sure to be a beautiful wedding and everyone involved is sure to have fun — but of course conservatives have to sh*t all over everything beautiful.

Provincial and territorial environment ministers were all meeting to discuss carbon strategies, but PM Trudeau very disrespectfully and unilaterally pronounced his carbon price plan while their meeting was still on.
So much for co-operation.

Obama hails global climate deal going into force
http://www.politico.com/story/2016/1...l-eu-un-229208
President Barack Obama on Wednesday hailed the international climate deal that is now set to go into force, promising it "will delay or avoid some of the worst depredations of climate change," even as he said more work would be needed after he leaves office.
The European Union submitted formal paperwork to ratify the deal with the United Nations on Wednesday, putting the agreement on track to take effect in 30 days. The deal reached in Paris last year includes commitments from virtually every country on earth to limit carbon emissions scientists say are causing climate change.
Story Continued Below
"This gives us a shot to save the one planet we’ve got," Obama said in the White House Rose Garden on Wednesday afternoon.

Trudeau calls carbon-price plan a "tax"...oops!?!
Tory MP Pierre Poilievre then charged that Trudeau “accidentally told the truth that this is a tax.”
Poilievre, who represents an Ontario riding, said green energy decisions by provincial Liberals have forced poor families in the region to head to food banks with their hydro bills in their hands. A “federal carbon tax” will do the same, he warned.“Why is prime minister forcing the poor to choose between heating their homes and feeding their families?” he asked.Last edited by seylz_gurl; Thu, Oct 6th, 2016 at 08:20 AM.

^ Yep, it's funny how he and the Libs used to always call it a 'tax', then they moved into calling it 'pricing' - well, a rose by any other name...

Well, this is beyond bizarre - what the heck are Trudeau and Dion thinking? Hm, I will go with them NOT thinking...
Yes, hugs for everyone - Putin included.
Way to go, little potato - you will be on your way to be turned into Russian vodka.
-----
Canada’s dreamers ignore Russian aggression and offer Putin an olive branch instead
Vladimir Putin’s approach to the Far North has been emphatically demonstrated by the planting of a Russian tricolor on the seabed at the North Pole, the construction of a network of new and refurbished military bases across Siberia, the forward basing of an army division in eastern Siberia by 2018 and the deployment of a new fleet of nuclear-powered ice breakers and quieter submarines in the Arctic.
The Trudeau government’s “rational” approach to the Top of the World is to initiate talks with the Russians next month about areas of mutual interest such as global warming and search and rescue.
Canada now favours a much less confrontational approach, according to a speech given recently in Foreign Minister Stéphane Dion’s name by his parliamentary secretary, Pamela Goldsmith-Jones.
The dreamers now ruling Canada believe a gentler stance can lead to a more trusting relationship with Putin on northern issues.
Dion’s radiant idea is to separate the two countries’ northern policies from uncomfortable talk with the Kremlin over other vexing issues such as its seizure of Crimea, setting eastern Ukraine aflame and constantly menacing Poland and the Baltic states. This is a fantastically generous gift to Russia.
By separating talks with Russia about relatively benign issues in the Arctic from Putin’s malevolent military posture there and elsewhere, Dion gives Putin a reward he does not deserve and puts Canada seriously out of step with close allies who are extremely distrustful of the Russian dictator’s intentions everywhere.
