OPP launches fall seatbelt campaign

The message from provincial police to drivers will be pretty clear over the next ten days as the OPP begins its fall seatbelt campaign, running until October 5th. If you're caught, charged and convicted of a seatbelt violation, you’ll be looking at a fine of anywhere between $200 and $1,000. Officers will even be setting up a number of spot checks through this 10-day campaign. The campaign comes as OPP have released some figures suggesting drivers just aren’t getting the message. They've investigated 34 road deaths so far this year in which the victims were reportedly not wearing a seat belt. That's up from 30 deaths at the same time last year.

Bill Cosby sentenced to state prison for sexual assault

Bill Cosby will wake up this morning in a state prison in Pennsylvania, where he was sent just hours after his sentencing for a sexual assault conviction. His representative is now claiming race is one of the reasons he’s been sent away. Spokesperson Andrew Wyatt says his client is sure of his innocence. The 81-year-old was given to 3-10 years in prison for drugging and molesting Andrea Constand in 2004.

Roberto Osuna inks peace bond, earns save for Astros against Blue Jays

Roberto Osuna, who took the mound hours after he had his domestic assault charge dropped by Crown attorneys in a Toronto courthouse, earned his second straight save as the Houston Astros beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 for their 100th win on the season.

The history of Lumberjack Day dates back to the mid-2000s when Marianne Ways and Colleen AF Venable decided it was time to honor this venerable profession. Venable herself worked as a lumberjack although she has admitted that the original idea for the day was conceived as an excuse to go out and eat pancakes and waffles with friends. Lumberjack Day has caught on though and is now celebrated by many.
