I started pepper and tomato seeds in late March - so far, so good. I also have some marigolds growing that I started two weeks ago inside, and last week started sage seeds.

My favourite way to start brassicas (cabbage, kale, cauliflower, etc), chard, and some herbs and flowers is to sow them in "milk jug greenhouses". They can be put outside in late March/early April (depending on your region) and then the plants can be directly transplanted into the garden, containers, etc. I put the milk jugs/juice jugs against the south side of the house and only bring them in if the temperature is going to drop below -2 or so overnight. No need to harden them off because they grew outside from seed and are already acclimatized. This was a game chnger for me, and saves so much space in our little house!

There are lots of videos on YouTube and articles online - just search for "milk jug greenhouses" or "winter sowing".

It really works like a charm, and it's so nice to be able to cut down on the number of transplants you have to harden off in the Spring.

Lucky you everything is late for me actually i planted too early in may and it snowed and it killed everything but my leafy greens including broccoli. I had to replant all my peppers callaloo and tomatoes

I planted early May also and worried as we had some colder nights but was lucky. Have only lost one plant so far, and that was a Jalapēno pepper whose post was not draining so it got water logged. Being more careful now.

I hope your second round works out!
