Not sure if the folks in Ontario have heard the news. I'm not a fan of this individual for a lot of reasons - he's the one responsible for some useless legislation, including the pit bull ban & the deregulation of optometrists (meaning you now have to pay big $, was covered before, lousy for the seniors I know).

Apparently, he let his temper get away from him & a cyclist was killed.

Don't know what else to say. I've had my share of issues with bicycle couriers (including being knocked down by one while crossing the street), but don't wish this sort of thing on anyone.

It is really a strange story, kind of in three parts. Seeing him in back of the cop car, he looked none too happy...

From what I've read, it appeared the cyclist hung onto the headrest and wanted to fight with the driver. Anyone who is threatened in such a manner would either fight or try to get away as quickly as possible. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't want anything to do with him and attempted to avoid this whole altercation by speeding away. Anyone who knows me knows how much I hate the Liberals, but as a driver, I frequently see bad behavior on the part of cyclists. They zig zag in the blind spots, ignore stop signs, ride on sidewalks, run over pedestrians. That could have been what instigated this incident.

Driving away to avoid an altercation is one thing....but making the conscious decision to drive a car on the wrong side of the road, up a sidewalk, so the cyclist would hit a tree, and a mail box is absolutlely unjustified. This guy is going to have to live with the decision he made for the rest of his life and try to explain to his family how he killed another human being.

I dont see how it is this guys fault at all I mean if someone is mad throws a bike at my car and comes towards me and is trying to start a fight I'm going to drive away its not the drivers fault that this guy hung on and tried to fight with him if he was smart he would have let go of the car and he would still be alive...
This guy had a convertible right?? So ya I would have tried to get away too if I knew the cyclist was mad and wanted to beat the crap out of me LOL

It said on the news that the cyclist was holding onto the steering wheel of the car trying to get it to either crash or stop so if that is true I would say cyclists fault...but idk too many stories going around about it some news stories say one thing other stories on tv say another but what I saw said that the cyclist was the one that started it and was holding onto the steering wheel when he hit all those things and then died...so idk

We don't have the whole story yet, and maybe never will.

The more objective elements are that the car went into the other lane, up onto the sidewalk, and hit tree/mailbox. Whether this was deliberate or not, and other motivations - we don't know.

Furthermore, I think this sad situation really demonstrates how the media works nowadays with constant updates (kind of like Twitter/Facebook) with no pretense to being objective and nonpartisan. For example, many reports are insinuating a lot of things.

I will admit that I fell for it at first and saw things as very polarized, black and white. However, I can now see that the driver will be able to build a solidly plausible case in court. And if I'm honest, I don't know how I would have reacted if I were the driver.

Right now the story is going to be very convoluded because there were so many witnesses. The police have to get the entire story straight, and witness accounts made for the media cannot be trusted 100%. That being said, the story will be different on most media outlets because of witness accounts. It seems to me that this is how the media is getting their story right now.

It is a sad situation, and I agree with bug. I don't know how I would have reacted in a situation like this.

Apparently his wife was in the car so wouldn't you get her to call 911, stop the vehicle, lock yourself up as much as possible and let the law take matters into their own hands?

He was driving a convertible and the cyclist already had his hold on the headrest (and possibly something else). These days in a heated situation, you never know what someone is capable of (has a knife? gun?), so I'd have to say in that situation (if what's reported so far is true), I'd be looking to get away as quickly as possible.

The cyclist was drunk and had been removed by police from his ex-girlfriend's apartment building an hour before this happened. So he was likely distraught at the time. I wasn't there, but my feeling is that Bryant reacted in fear. I would have tried to get away too if I was driving a convertible and an angry, crazy sounding guy was threatening me and hanging onto my car. There's no way I would have sat there, calmly calling the police!
