I just wanted to share the first cake i got to make for my nephew's birthday.
I came up with the pirate theme since it seemed like something most boys would like.
The party was supose to be outside but since it rained all day we had to improvise and take it indoor.
Here are some pics of the cake i made. It consist of 22 cupcakes,(16 were lemon cupcakes and 6 were white angel food cupcakes) and one very large cake(carrot cake, birthday boy's favorite).
I used Chocolate Chip Cookies finely ground for the sand ( it looked so real, almost too disgusting to eat...
), dark chocolate fondue for the map trail and crossed X.
Also got the sharks form the Dollar Store for in the water.
The pirates i bought at the local Dollar Store( 2 packages, came complete with many playful accessories, not shown on the cake).
The candles spell Happy Birthday also from the Dollar Store really lit up nicely when placed only at the back of the cake.
I really find cupcake to be the easiest thing ever to serve on birthday's since there is no cutting involved. They can be served on napkins instead of plates and require not utensils.
Now i can't wait for my niece to have her birthday, i'm thinking of creating a pool side party theme on her cake with waterslide and barbie dolls, what do you think? This thread is currently associated with: Cake Beauty

That is so awesome! Very creative!
The girl in the pic looks thrilled to bits too. To me that is one of the most awesome things in the world, to see that look on a child's face (especially over something you did)

Excellent job! Aw, I miss doing those funky cakes for my son's birthdays.
Hmm, there's an idea... maybe for his 18th in the fall, I'll go back to making a 'theme' cake....

Wow, that is *very* cool. Did it take a lot of time? I would love to try my hand at something like that, but I don't have a lot of time to spend doing it.
