I haven’t told many ppl in real life but decided to share with my SC’s peeps. I am now on day 2 of quitting, I’ve been smoking for 16 years and I’ve been preparing for 6 months (ordered samples of everything I need to quit) but never in a million years did I expect to be this miserable! Anyone else have inspiring story to share I’m all ears (well eyes)
This is me

Exercise. Go for a (brisk) walk. Have a glass of water when you fell like smoking. Count the money you're saving by quitting and actually deposit it into a savings account.

I don't have inspirings stories of ppl who quit but as a CLSC nurse, I have a lot of horror stories of ppl who didn't.
You have all my admiration.

That makes 2 of us. 6 days in the making and it's one of the hardest thing I've had to do.

The first week is the toughest, not to get gross on you but you will maybe be shocked at what you cough up. Don't worry. It gets better , soon you will be able to smell and taste. I quit 22 years ago cold turkey. IT CAN BE DONE!!!
$8(a pack) a day in one year you will save $2920

I haven't smoked myself, but several family members did and it's so true about spitting up gross stuff

I know some of them chewed a lot of regular gum when not using the Nicorette stuff.
Just don't look back, keep going! You can do it!!!

I quit after 24 years (started when I was 12). I thought of it as a bad break up, and they were calling for a bootie call. I sent him packing!

As a former smoker, I have a sense of what you're going through
It's been many years since I quit, but every now and then I still feel like having a smoke. But I don't because I care too much about my health. Also, I've come to really dislike the smell of smoke on people
My suggestions are 1) get adequate sleep -- it's hard to have willpower and discipline when one is fatigued, and 2) find something to keep your mind and hands busy -- maybe knitting or jewelry-making or even clipping coupons! lol
Fyi, Jean Coutu has a Quit Smoking kit that you can get free. More details here:

Good luck Kelly and Marseille! Keep us posted on how it's going!
And congrats on your decision to stop smoking!

Thanks
I started preparing for this last summer! I have 3 of those bags from Jean Coutu and the gum was very helpful, I’ve been ordering the free samples from fb’s somber up and have packs of patches, gum and mints. Day 5 doing better but I also realized that the patch made everything worse so this is day 2 patch free. I’m pretty determined I most definitely don’t want to start this week over again..

You're welcome
That's interesting about the patch making things worse. I heard a report recently that people who quit smoking with the help of the patch had a higher rate of relapsing than people who used other methods. If I remember correctly, the highest success rate for no relapses was for those who did it cold turkey.

I found what helped me most, identifying the triggers. I had to quit drinking caffeinated beverages for 3-4 months when I quit for good. When the caffeine hit my blood, it triggered the same feeling as when I was in need of a smoke. Made it a lot easier when I switched to decaf and other non caffeine based drinks.
gone shopping!

Keep up the good work....it is encouraging. Quitting is easy I've done it a thousand times
....please keep us posted as I give up the smelly habit as well.
Being defeated is only temporary...giving up makes it permanent

Day 6 and I’m honestly better then ever
No patch, no gum and no mints! I must be weird because everyone says coffee makes is worse but in my case coffee helps!! Lol!! I went from 1-2 coffee a day to 2-4. I’m going to buy some of that sugar free sugar (splenda) because I do put 2 sugars in each and I don’t want to put on much weight.
Something to expect : The average weight gain in the process of quitting is 7 pds.
