I had been thinking about that. Maybe because with cessation aids, one continues to use nicotine in another form thus still dependent on it? For some reason, when I try to quit (every other week it seems
), all I want to do is sleep and I have a real hard time focusing when driving

Way to go! You may want to watch the coffee -- you don't want to substitute one *drug* for another. I remember watching some program -- I think it was Dr. Oz -- in which they showed that heavy coffee drinkers go through withdrawal when they decide to cut coffee out of their lives.
Hey, snuff - I think you're probably right about just using nicotine in another form. I quit cold turkey so I don't have experience with that, but it makes sense. But I'm surprised that for you trying to quit smoking makes you want to sleep. I would have thought it would keep you awake

Day 7 horrible and painful. I feel strangled and its hard to breath
This entire process is like a roller coaster, some days are harder then others but one thing for sure I can’t let my guard down not even for a second!
I was sleeping just fine (even better then usual) when on the patch! That is something I wasn’t expecting, now I wake up every few hours and never seem to be in a deep sleep, I’m so tired.
Discomfort and lack of sleep sums it up for day 7, all I can do is hope for a better day tomorrow.

great^^ feel free to share on here, we can vent and support eachother.
Last night I couldn’t sleep and I was soo tired. DH told me to take an Advil, so I did and slept better then the other days
Not saying I’d take Advil everyday but maybe on the days like yesterday when the physical pain of quitting is overly intense.

You're doing great! I quit four years ago (for the third time, seems to have stuck). At the time we had just moved into our new house and didnt have cable so that we could save money
after calculating how much smoking costs us I figured that maybe we should get cable, a new dining room and living room set instead!!!!
I used the patch to start but it made me feel really sick and I would have wild dreams. It was so crazy I started to cut them so that they were smaller (horrible idea, it's apparently makes it absorb faster). The pharmacist jut recommended taking it off at night. A bit better but it still felt like someone punched me where the patch was so after three weeks, I quit the patch.
Next I tried the gum, but hated how it made my throat feel.
Finally I upped my coffees and played with lots of paper clips (to keep my hands busy) and just toughed it out.
I know it's hard, but you're doing awesome!
I agree with not telling everyone at first, people can be really judgy if you fall back to old habits. In the end you really have to do it for you!

I have a similar story. I started at 15 and 20 years later I put out my last smoke. March 15, 2011. What worked for me was (and I'm aware how this sounds) positive thinking. I talked my way through it. I told myself how strong I was, how each day would get easier. Each hour was a struggle and I just kept hanging on a little bit longer. A day at a time? lol, it was at times a minute at a time. I kept looking at sites that told me how what was happening to my body - how it was healing. I would, and still do often, take a deep breath and marvel at how amazing it was to not be wheezing. I quit cold effing turkey and I am so proud of myself. No matter how you quit....just tell yourself over and over and over that you ARE doing it!

Smoke free for 11 days
I was waiting to feel like a non-smoker or an ex-smoker and now I’ve come to realize that I am and will always be a smoker, who simply decides not to smoke! For some reason this helps

No patch, no gum and no mints! I must be weird because everyone says coffee makes is worse but in my case coffee helps!! Lol!! I went from 1-2 coffee a day to 2-4. I’m going to buy some of that sugar free sugar (splenda) because I do put 2 sugars in each and I don’t want to put on much weight.
