TrueNorthTreasures, that's what I'm afraid of here. Not a good forecast to say the least, but I'm going to pick what I think will ripen and cover the rest. Nothing else that can really be done at this point. Some other small tomatoes were turning yellow, so I picked them this morning. Our 2yr old son wanted to pick all of the tomatoes with me, good little helper...but not just yet.

You have my sympathies True North
By the way... if frost is coming around too quick and your garage stays above freezing you can ripen them by hanging the whole plants indoors http://www.growveg.com/growblogpost.aspx?id=103

TNT, I just got shivers seeing that covering of the white stuff over everything. I am counting our blessings then that we still have some nice weather before we get that. ( I hope? )

I would love to have a space like a garage or large shed for this purpose! We don't, so right now our little house is somewhat cluttered. We have a small room with mostly plants in it and big windows...now it also has three tomato plants in containers, bean plants hanging from the ceiling, herb cuttings in rooting solution, and cardboard flats full of bean pods that are drying. In the laundry room, several boxes full of green tomatoes lined with newspaper, and a pepper plant hanging from the wall. *L*

They are pretty much guaranteeing frost this week, so I finished harvesting anything in my garden that was big enough to harvest and can't handle the frost. It is so sad to have to do this so early in the season. I will still diligently cover the plants that I hope will survive, but the forecast lows for this week are 3, 2, 0, 4, 3, 4...so I'm not going to hold my breath. Next week is supposed to warm up some, but I'm still not sure how much growth can take place before the cold really hits. It is currently 6C, light rain, and wind. I have three boxes with tomatoes in it, a grocery bag with my only harvest of Swischard, and another grocery bag has 2 baby zucchinis (only ones of the season), last of the peas and yellow string beans. My green onions have sprouted back up in the last few weeks. They think it is spring after the rainy week that we had in the middle of August.
