Thread: Accidentally bought expired item @ RCSS
-
Sun, Jun 1st, 2014, 08:04 PM #1
I bought one frozen pizza @ RCSS yesterday. After home, I notice the expiry date was May 28th. I was kind of upset. I am wondering if RCSS will accept return on frozen items? It's a 30 min drive for me. I am not sure if it's worth it. Any idea?

I'm sure they will accept it, but I would have no problem eating it. The date is just 'suggested', not necessarily a safety date.

Honestly....I wouldn't bother....it's a best before date......the item doesn't automatically spoil on that day....just use it sooner than later
....just be happy

I think you should go back and return the pizza,
those big companies first of all not suppose to keep expiry products,
they should not only refund you full amount but also honour you with extra free pizza...
2 times I bought expired samosa's pack without checking the expiry date at nofrills,
i took those packs after a week back to nofrills ,they did check their batch,I was with them and was surprised to see all samosa packs were expired, after taking those packs back they refund me the full money and gave me some other brand products for the same price....complimentary

For a 30 minute drive and an expiry of a couple days, and a frozen product? Definitely not worth it and I would eat it as well.

i'd eat the pizza.. it's not like it's going to spoil and i doubt you'll get anything from them other than a new pizza

I wouldn't even bother. That isn't a big deal. It's not going to turn to toxic mush on May 29th. Half the food in our house is expired by 6 months or more, and to be honest I do not notice a difference. Chips, crackers, shelf stable products etc are all as fresh as they would be if I opened them the day I bought them, even a year past expiry.
Frozen food is fine to eat past expiry as long as it looks and smells fine, and hasn't been thawed and refrozen.
Were you really mad, or do they just have a program where if you buy an expired item they'll give you a GC?

Something like this happened to me before. I called the manager and they took my info and had a gc waiting for me at customer service when I came back- I also didn't have to bring back the item.
I think this is a rarity but I would still give a call

I never happened to use expiry foods so can not say any thing about using the product,
last time I bought cereals and they were expired,my son who is just 10 years old,he told me he is not going to eat them because they are expired,I tried to explain it is best before, not expired.
but he replied this May be good not best,I want best....hahaha
i took them back to the store and they did exchange it.
if it is too far for you to go there, you can call them or email them, atleast you should bring this matter into their consideration,
you can eat expired pizza but you shouldn't.

I agree with momi that you can eat expired food but you shouldn't.
The pizza was not free for you, you bought that, you gave the manufacturer (or the store) your hard earned money, and you expect to have only the best from them. If that's not the best, you can go with another brand (or store), there're lots of brands out there, so every manufacturer has to fully satisfy a customer in order to survive and continue its business.
If it's far from you, deal with that problem by phone. I am sure, they will help you. I noticed that customer service is often ready to help a customer (sometimes not but it's rarely). Even if that expired pizza won't harm you, they should know about that, that was their mistake which they have to correct next time.Last edited by Mia; Thu, Jun 5th, 2014 at 10:00 AM.

I, too, bought some frozen burgers on Sunday at Rcss that had expired May 23. I called the store a few days later when I was getting my recycling sorted, as that was when I noticed the date. We did eat a box and were fine. Spoke to the Manager and asked him to remove whatever was left as didn't want anyone getting possibly sick. He told me to bring in receipt with whatever was left and they refunded my money and gave me a 25 gift card. Now, my rcss is 5 mins away and they odd know me well as a weekly big shopper, so they were happy to keep me happy! Hope this helps.

I would eat it. I don't think they should have sold it to you. But I would still eat it, lol. Good luck.
