I recently started entering several contests. I understand, from reading here, that if you win something that comes from the U.S.(from sites like Leites Culinaria, Family Covers, Steamy Kitchen, etc) that you might have to pay delivery fees to UPS. Would you also have to pay U.S. taxes?
I often wondered about that when some rules and regulations state:
All federal, state, local or international taxes associated with the prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.
or:
Winners are solely responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes and other fees associated with prize receipt and use.

If you won a computer I would call UPS and ask thier brokerage department how to get it to you with no cost before it gets shipped. If the contest company just fills in the shipping forms and says its a $2,000 computer you will get taxed on that value. Even if they cut the value by half you would pay half the taxes.

Sounds like it's best just to enter Canadian contests or American contests that offer things like gift cards that can just be mailed out.

Thanks for the advice. I never read the rules in the past... I will definitely be reading the rules more carefully from now on.

What time of the day do you think is best for entering contests? I always enter early mornings and last year I won alot, now this year still entering early mornings and I am nowhere near what I won last year.
Just curious ThanksThank You SC'rs for all the contests/samples/freebies, etc. that you post.

I got an email from [email protected] today. Is this a legit thing or should I junk it? I've never won anything before.
