Navy Island in the middle of the Niagara River was once considered
as the site of the U.N. building. They would build two bridges
one to the U.S. side and one to the Canadian side.
Thank God that never happened!
The mayflies were out yesterday, it's a good sign the water in the Niagara River is clean.
Mayflies can only survive in clean water environments. They cannot live in pollution.
The presence or absence of Mayfly larvae is an important indicator of water pollution.
Mayflies have an incredibly short lifespan.
After the larva stage, female mayflies usually live less than five minutes, while males can live a whopping two days.
But they don’t waste a single minute, spending that short period of time mating and reproducing.
The adults of many mayfly species don't even have mouths and digestive systems, because they don't live long enough to need them. Mayflies fly in swarms, and mate in flight. ... 30-40mm of rain in the forecast for today and tomorrow with the heaviest overnight..everything is already sogged...but it's FRIDAY, the best day of the week, so hopefully its a glorious weekend despite all the rain!

@KelJo - I have had that happen before with violas, it's such a nice surprise!
Kinda jealous about your rain - we got some yesterday, hopefully more today!
It's 11 now, high of 14.
Yesterday was really muggy, as the temp was higher.

+12 today and windy today!! it rained almost all weekend...hoping to get all my flowers and veggies planted today...its late this year for planting but the weather hasn't been good...I have several different kinds of flowers, including marigolds which are my favorite (because they are the last to die in the Fall) and I have onions, garlic, tomato, kale, spinach, beets, oregano & parsley, etc to go in the ground...the tomato plants already have flowers so I hope they grow but the weather is cool for sure
