Wondering how it went for RobynCD with the little one? I remeber telling my son his best friend had died suddenly when they were 7. I seem to remember someone once said (can't remember where I saw this) that when telling kids about death the important thing was to make sure they knew it could not happen to them because that's their first biggest fear. They said you should emphasize dramatically your words. I told kevin that his friend died because he was very, very, very sick and noone could hep him. This is what they meant by exagerating the words. Do you know what I mean? So for example Grandma was very, very, very old and very, very sick. I guess it depends on what your kid can handle too and of course their age.

He was being clingy & trying to be comforting. Then, when I sneezed on him, he got quite offended. He's still mad.

For me, it's a simple cold. Unfortunately, with my lack of immune system, a little cold is a big pain in the nether region.

Hope you feel better soon, Patty.

Was just reading about a RAOK train that went missing and it's the same person who I sent one off too(I was on Litesandsirens BBQ train) and went missing also. I don't like that one bit. Pretty indecent if you ask me.(this is all I can print because what I am really thinking is unprintable)

I worry about my parents being here too for that reason. My dad has asthma and my mom Alzheimers so I am trying to stay in a different part fo the house.

is frustrated that I haven't had this baby yet.

I've been lurking in this thread for a while now.

Patty, hope you feel better soon. DH, you're a good guy for staying at home today

Robyn, how did telling the boys about your aunt go? So sorry for your loss.

I can't remember much else right now.

I think I, too, am getting sick. I've had the worst congestion and sore throat all week, but it's not doing anything else. I'm sore, but it's hard to tell if it's sick sore or pregnant sore.

here is something that hopefully will give people a chuckle-my cat goes nuts over a little hand massager we have. If we turn it on to use on someone he starts meowing away and coming up to it and stuff! Then we use it on him and he LOVES it!!! He also loves getting massaged on his tummy too-he rolls on his back for us to use the massager on his tummy. The cat is funny! oh and then he is not happy when we get tired of using it on him and turn it off. lol

Robyn, so sorry about the loss of your aunt.

Not to be lazy, but I'm going to re-copy advice I left on the parenting thread earlier in the summer - it may help a bit, depending upon the ages, etc. Just for the general drift, not the specific references because it was in response to someone's grandma who had died, and the situation with her daughter...
    ---
The first funeral our son attended with us, he was two, it wasn't someone he knew, and he just wondered why the man was sleeping in the front of the church.
However, my mom died when he was four, and they were really close. He had only seen her once in the hospital before she 'looked' really ill, and we decided to not have him go to the prayers, or to the funeral. He did come to the lunch after the funeral. We wanted him to remember her in life. But he was old enough to understand what 'dead' was, and we explained it and answered his questions. I'm sure there were times we said "I don't know," which is fine to do...
At that age of development, before five, things are literal for children - so the best explanation is that the body stopped working properly, as a result of sickness or accident, whatever the circumstances happened to be. Make sure you use the words 'death, dead' - not 'went away, or went to sleep' - those are too confusing for children and they may bring fear. Usually, too, if a child this age asks where the person who dies is, the answer is the cemetery - not necessarily about life after death. However, do explain any of your faith's beliefs in this when appropriate.
Explain that people will cry and they will be sad, and encourage your daughter to talk about her feelings. Sometimes kids will act out uncharacteristically instead of being sad - simply because they have emotions they don't know how to deal with.
I know some funeral homes have colouring books for kids explaining things - the one I saw once was very general and very tastefully done.
Otherwise, you explain things according to your faith and family values. Sometimes children want to know the science behind it all, then again you decide how much you want her to know.
I think at that age, the biggest thing is to reassure your daughter that she is safe, that you will continue to be looking after you. She probably will ask you if you will ever die, or if she will - so be prepared for that too.
