For the staining issue, maybe try adding a layer of a lighter polish (like white) underneath before the darker colour?

Use a base coat before applying dark polish that way it won't stain

Wow you gals are brave! LOL! I love coloured polishes and always have a bright rosey pink on my toes and my nail colours usually are more subdued...mauves, roses...right now I have a very light pink on...My nails tend to grow quickly so it's hard to keep them short...it's fun, though! OPI colours are gorgeous: I still love "I'm Not Really a Waitress" for the fall...I always use two coats of a good undercoat..
Mine tend to be brittle and dry also, so I use two products interchangeably:
Sally Hanson's Miracle Cure (opaque light blue bottle)
Sally Hanson Triple Strong Advanced Nail Fortifier (a medicinal square green bottle)
So far, both do a good job for me...spring seems to be the worst time for mine.

These are my nails today.
The polish is Rimmel Lasting Pro finish and the colour is 270 Steel Grey.
I love the brush, its flat like a paint brush, not rounded.
I couldn't find a white background so I just grabbed a piece of Styrofoam. The colour is kinda like the opi one posted on the previous page.
