For those who asked for square recipes ... Im going to the city to mom's on Monday to wash her walls. I'll bring square recipes back with me.

It was TERRIFYING. Her mom called us and was screaming and freaking out. We had her over our house every day for a week because her mom had to work and I was home, she was too scared to stay home by herself. The kids were NOT charged, we aren't sure why exactly. Some technicality. Something about not enough evidence etc... They were 14!
It was very sad. She still has scars on her face from it, and we bought her wigs to wear because they cut her hair off down to the scalp.

Hmmmm.... thats really a tough one. My mom was a foster mom my whole life, and had really creative kinds of punishments, because she had kids with all kinds of problems. She would probably have made the kid clean it up, but also did what you did, which is collect all the writing implements they had and put them in a big dish or bag, and tell them that from now on they had to ask every time they needed a pencil. Good going, momma... sounds like you were calm and made a good decision.

As far as the acting babyish thing goes, that is so common for kids between 10-13. It is all kinds of things, but especially that they are making different connections between things, and it can be hard to deal with. We never know what is going on in their heads, they can be thinking about all kinds of stuff they never did before... death, growing up, girls, etc. Reverting is one way of dealing with it. The old fashioned psychs call it "Peter Pan syndrome" when adults do it

Does it seem strange that they sent out a newsletter with words expiring tomorrow? I haven't been able to try them yet b/c I'm still waiting for my "hour" after voting to be done. Maybe someone else is in better shape to try them out?

This is more and more common with P&P... I know that quite a few of the members on here complain often that they don't even get the email newsletters until the words are expired!



The snow is really melting fast here, but we got 10 inches of it yesterday and the day before! Crazy. I just hope it is all melted before trick or treating, or we are going to have a hard time. Winter isn't very sure-footed still... she falls down a LOT. If we have to deal with icy steps, we won't be trick or treating for long.

I'm off to make bread, do dishes, laundry etc. Not doing the day of beauty thing today, I moved it to a different day because DH is suddenly SO sick with something terrible. Poor guy! 4 days of work in a row and he spends his day off puking.

kekes do you by any chance have a recipe for gluten free bread? I don't know anything about making bread or about gluten except the allergies to it. My son's friend Jade is allergic to gluten and paying an outrageous amount of money for gluten free bread. She doesn't have a bread maker but when I suggested making her own she said she'd try to find one she could afford and asked me to see if I could find her a recipe for gluten free bread. He's meeting her in Miami tomorrow they have a hotel room on south beach they got super cheap offseason. I'd love to go too know my ds would be so happy to have me along..NOT!!!
NS I think you handled the whole deal with Ryan just fine. If he does it again you can always return the favor with potato peels or carrots in something of his tho . It is so hard with some kids to find a punishment that gets through to them, my son was so hardheaded the normal things like grounding or sitting him in a corner would just make him mad and then he'd be hell to live with so that I'd end up having to punish him more. Never liked to spank my kids (I couldn't handle physically hurting them even for a couple swats on the rear end) and found right away with him that it didn't do anything but make him see red. Had to get creative and ended up finding out that taking away his priveledges worked much better. My daughter was easy in comparison.
As far as the babyish behavior my daughter started acting like a baby when her father left but she had just turned 5 at the time so figured she'd outgrow it but it wasn't until puberty before she totally did. Whenever she was feeling insecure she'd talk babyish especially around men or when I was in college and had finals coming up and couldn't spend much quality time with them. Prepuberty is a very scary time for them. The bullying around that age group can get bad especially when their hormones get to bombarding them. They tend to start picking and choosing their friends with different criteria then what they used before, which is when you start getting more girl bullies. Firefly I really hope the bullying your daughter is going thru will blow over but wouldn't wait to see if it will. Sad to say but the bullies are getting more violent now and kids do get hurt if the bullies aren't stopped in their tracks when it starts and it may not be just a blackeye.

As for the boots, I don't do pink if I can help it. Now, red. on the other hand, I just might be tempted. Problem is I have to be really fussy when it comes to shoes & boots - related to some weird health issues from my past (brittle bones, osteoporosis among other things).

haun, i hope your right. i try not to give him attention when he's whining, sooking etc. i just say STOP. but don't give in and give him whatever he wants. but kinda hard to tell them no when they wanna be snuggled??? *sigh*)

Dont respond to bad behaviors, and dont cut out the snuggling unless its too excessive. You will miss that. He needs some reassurance that you still love him and he is trying to deal with all these emotions and stuff. John (oldest ds) kinda became withdrawn during this time too. It will all pass. He justs needs the time to figure it out in his own mind. Hang in there and ya still gotta put a cap on the bad behavior.

how can he remember all these verses, yet can't remember 4x4 is 16??

John suprised us all in fourth grade and knew every line in the main character's part in the christmas play which he ended up having to do. He never participated at all until the night before and something happend to the kid who was suppose to be the main character. Took me three years to teach him all his multiplications.

like the play I was in grade 10 which was four years ago I still remember the words to all the songs I had to sing and still remember all the dance moves LOL
