Ok, so i know this is not a HUGE brag, but my son and I bought 3 Pumpkin Pie pumpkins last week at a local pumpkin farm. I pureed them up and they ended up making 8 pumpkin pies-shocker for such little pumpkins!!! (many still frozen in freezer for Christmas).
I used a ton of evaporated milk coupons (40cents off) and 4 Tenderflake 1.00 off coupons at Food Basics which had them on for 1.97, making 2 pie crusts only 50 cents each. I bought eggs on sale for 2.19 a dozen. I already had pumpkin pie spice in my cupboard.
I also bought a few containers of Vanilla Ice Cream from Food Basics at $1.88 each.
All in all, I figured out that it cost about $1.75 per pie plus whatever electricity used for baking them---woo hoo!!!This thread is currently associated with: Food Basics

yummy! A homemade pumpkin pie beats a store bought one any day...good for you for making them from scratch, now you can enjoy them later too! (the frozen ones)

I've never had a homemade pumpkin pie, sounds delicious probably way better than the flat paperthin store ones!

Thanks everyone!
The pies tasted great. Wish I could share some with all of you. For those of you wanting to try sometime I just found the recipe online at the following site which even explains how to find the right kind of pumpkin etc. Excellent site!!

Awesome - I hadn't realized that places like that had sugar pumpkins! I know they have them at Safeway, but they are crazy expensive.
I got a pie free (with purchase of three other items) at Safeway last week - it was really good!

WOW ..awesome

Plus I think you can use the carved pumpkin shells to make Jack Lantern decorations on your doorstep for HALLOWEEN which isn't that far off .. your kid will really enjoy that too in addition to the pie of course

Awesome brag! WTG!
Nothing like homemade pies!
LOL, I made 7 pumpkin pies, 7 doz tarts (pumpkin, raspberry & maple walnut) & date squares! haha
Got the Tenderflake at FB too & ran out of evap milk so had to go back, lol
I use the recipe on the back of the ED Smith pumpkin pie pure pumpkin cans!
Luckily mom gets me the huge restaurant size 6lb cans in the States so its less expensive than buying the small cans here! One can makes about 6 pies & some left for pumpkin spice muffins too!
