So this girl posted on facebook that her kids aren't allowed to drink anything until their completely done their meal, not a sip of water nothing.

Im quite curious as to how many other parents have this rule?

My take, its horrible to expect someone to eat meal on a regular basis with no water or liquid. I myself have a hard time eating, especially dry foods with no drink. Maybe it was how I was raised but I see it as a bit mean if anything. Why not hand a kid a row of soda crackers and make them eat the whole thing with no water too.

I was raised with the no drink policy and still don't mix the two. Dd's dad was raised differently, this issue was bone that was picked a few times. He thought I was mean for not offering dd water with her meal. I felt that she would fill up on the water and not touch her meal, the same position my mom had with me. I was finally vindicated when I received the same advice from dd's nutritionist.

I would definetly offer her something if she seemed to be having a hard time, I would not let her choke it down.

I always have a drink with my meal, so why not my kids? I could see limiting it to one drink, so they're not chugging 3 glasses of milk and then too full to eat their dinner. I just don't see the sense in it at all.

I've always had the opposite problem with DD, never drinks enough milk so I would never not offer it to her with her meal - I'm always VERY happy when she finishes her milk with dinner!

I know they suggest having room temperature water rather then freezing cold, but even my dr has made sure my kids get drinks at meals.

My DD doesn't get a drink until after she is done eating, but she never asks for it either. I keep it on the table for her to have when she is finished, and if she seems to have be having a problem she is welcome to have it. I just want her to focus on eating and then she can relax with her drink later.

So what would school lunch situations be then? Because if you send it they have it at lunch or if you have a payment plan for choc/white milk its at lunch?

Yes, we always let him. Usually he didn't drink much during a meal, he was a good eater! Most often it was milk - his choice.

DS is always allowed to have a drink with his meals, whether it's milk, water or juice, he never goes thirsty. Same as throughout the day, he always has access to liquids.

Same here. I've always got a sippy cup filled with ice water ready for DS (he gets a regular cup when we sit at the table for meals). Now that he can open/close the fridge himself, I leave it in the fridge ready to go when he sees it.

we always have drinks with our meals sometimes you just need help getting the food to go down i just don't allow them to sit and gulp a whole cup of milk or juice down then it will fill them up
