In terms of doing receiving, I've seen this happen before. One package just isn't like the other
I'd definitely contact the manufacturer, it may just be something that happens that comes with large scale production.
Goodluck, and I wouldn't get too upset unless they aren't willing to do anything about it.

btt for update. Thanks everyone for your support. I would recommend not shopping at Heart Lake Town Centre in Brampton as they don't stand behind their goods.

It's too bad this happen - but things like this DO happen!
We were in a similar situation with a barbecue - box was factory sealed, but parts were missing. The store couldn't do anything about it - how could they? Contacted the company, and they sent the missing parts.
I know this has been hard and disappointing for you, but I don't know that in your case I would be blaming the store...
Hope it gets resolved for you soon!

Good luck - I'm sure it will work out. You're very lucky to have such a supportive family and don't forget, SCers are behind you too!

Don't want to offend, but the manufacturer (Nintendo) should probably be the one you should have contacted. Even though you didn't, you should still contact them. They should be aware of what's going on with their products, whether it's their fault or the store's fault. I know some companies weigh every product that leaves their plants to make sure everything's in them.
But I do wish you luck that this gets resolved. I'm glad your son is so understanding!Last edited by awalkman; Wed, Dec 15th, 2010 at 05:27 PM.

It seems absurd that the manager won`t take it back because it was opened. Were you supposed to x-ray the box to ensure the contents were there prior to gifting it It seems to me that this is a problem for Shoppers and Nintendo to sort out while making sure the customer is satisfied in the meantime. I hope that is what transpires over the next few days. Otherwise, they are making problem between the retailer and the manufacturer your problem.
Tell your son we are all rooting for him!

This reminds me of a somewhat similar experience I had... My husband bought a pack of razor cartridges at Walmart. We all know how expensive those are.. He came home & opened up the sealed package & it was empty. Completely freakin empty. There's no way you can open those, remove the cartridges, & re-seal it. It was factory sealed. We went back to Walmart & I was expecting quite the fight (because really, who'd believe that we bought an empty box?? Shouldn't we have realized that it was super light?), but they were really great about it & let us exchange it no problem.
It's too bad that you got the ds through points. If it was paid for with a credit card, I'd be disputing the charge.

What a terrible thing to happen to your family. My heart would have dropped - I can't believe someone would take the DSI and then seal back the box! How awful!
