So, did they discredit the report because his research was incorrect or because of how he collected the samples??

Kinda like evidence in a murder case getting removed because it wasn't collected by police correctly so the person gets off...but still commited the crime!

IS there any truth to his report outside of how he collected the samples?? Or is the whole report garbage??

I've been wondering this myself for a long time. It is not possible to make any generalizable conclusions from a case study of 12.

no other tests have shown what his "tests" showed.
as well he did not disclose his funding was coming from people litigating agaisnt vaccine makers, which was a clear conflict of interest.

"Wakefield's hypothesis was that by combining vaccines for measles, mumps and rubella into a single shot, known as MMR, the vaccine weakened the immune system and damaged the gut. He said that this, in turn, led to the development of autism.
The GMC (General Medical Council) concluded that Wakefield participated in "dishonesty and misleading conduct" while he conducted the research. Specifically, it found Wakefield responsible for an ethics breach because he wrote that the children involved in the case report were referred to his clinic for stomach problems, when he knew nearly half of the children were actually part of a lawsuit looking into the effects of an MMR vaccine. Some children didn't have stomach issues at all.
Wakefield also failed to disclose he was paid in conjunction with the lawsuit, or that he had a patent related to a new MMR vaccine in development when he submitted the case report for publication.

Wakefield took blood samples from children at his own child's birthday party and paid them each five British pounds for their trouble. "

"Subsequent investigations by the General Medical Council resulted in a lengthy charge sheet for all three doctors involved in the study. These centred on alleged inadequate ethical approval for the study. The doctors are charged with putting children through invasive and uncomfortable tests, including colonoscopies and brain scans, which they did not need in order to try to prove Wakefield's theory."

was there never any other studies that tied autism to the MMR?? i'll admit i was skeptical the first time i heard it.. i know there are some women out there who have done extensive research on this topic

though, i still haven't given my daughter her MMR part because she was feeling a little under the weather when shot time came around and i just never got around to reschedualing the appointment (always had an excuse like didn't want to bring her to a clinic during H1N1 breakout, her naps being all over the map, going away to visit family) that and i'm personally not a fan of giving a child sooo many shots at once

to my knowledge there have been no tests or studies that have connected the two.

wow. ive found sites on the net, defending this monster and claiming he is being unjustly persecuted and censored. these people then censor comments on their site that link to proper medical tests which prove him wrong.

ok so what if its a big cover up- cant have vaccines and autism linked because then no one would have their child(ren) vaccinated and then we'd have mass outbreaks of deadly diseases. so just shun the ones that believe their children have had reactions to vaccines to save the rest of the population. can you imagine the pharmaceutical companies devasting loses? loss of lives from illnesses? gov't/medical/science screw ups...
-just playing devils advocate and only believe half of what ya read.
If my child all of a sudden had a drastic change in his whole well being after being vaccinated, I dont think I would be grasping straws, I would know that vaccine had something to do with it.

i do completely agree that ONLY testing 12 children is not enough to base a whole theory on .

I asked my doctor if she can give the MMR shot all broken down, which I would rather do, however as soon as you mention it to my doctor she jumps down my thoat "do you have any idea how painful dying of measles is?" "Your a bad mother...bla bla bla!" (not a big fan of my doctor)
So, if I get up the nerv I will get the shot broken down.

well the money that funded the study came form trial lawyers looking to litigate agaisnt the vaccine and were hoping this study could be used as a big weapon in the fight agaisnt it. which right there shows a conflict of itnerest as he would have to make the report favourable to them. as well he had a patent ona competing vaccine and if the mmr vaccine usage was stopped, he would stand to make a large sum of money, once again showing a conflict of interest

I was wondering the same thing. Pharmaceutical companies make millions of dollars of vaccines...ever notice there is now a vaccination for just about everything (things that use to be common/low risk...now are a huge threat to society and our health ...hmmmmm).

DaisyBear - go with your feelings on the MMR...there is no law that your child has to have the vaccines at a certain age ...these are just guidelines (that make it easier for the doctor). I delayed vaccinations for all my children ...I am not against them at all (I have travelled to third world countries and I have seen the effects)... but I had an age that I was comfortable with and my doctor (although not thrilled) respected my decision - so there are alternatives and options

Measles, kill you or blind you, horrific if you catch it as an adult.
    Mumps, sterility for males
Rubella, deform the fetus of those who come into contact with you.

My brother caught Mumps as a teenager it was not a good time in our house.

I resent those that have the herd mentality. "well all the other kids are immunized, so mine don't need to be done". I remember a Polio outbreak a few years back because of this.

For those of us who never bought into the MMR shots cause autism and were ostracized at playgroups for our views, well I guess we were right after all.
