Many people have questions regarding the common coupon policy practices of various retail stores throughout Canada.
While it is important to remember that individual store have the right to set their own coupon policies, often it is the case that perhaps cashiers are not aware of the Official Coupon Policy for the company. In these cases it is helpful to have a handout ready that contains the pertinent information on the standard coupon practices as set by store headquarters.
To that end I have prepared PDF versions of the various coupon policies of stores found here on Smart Canucks. Feel free to print these and add to your coupon binders/folders/stashes for you to pull out for reference when coupon shopping.
I have added a version date at the bottom of each. If you find that any of these policies become outdated or you are aware of recent changes, or if you have another policy to add, feel free to make a post and I will update the list with new PDF documents.
Again, these are not to create confusion nor arguements with cashiers at your retail store rather help to communicate the message from head offices on their official coupon policies! This thread is currently associated with: N/ALast edited by middleclassmom; Thu, May 5th, 2011 at 01:07 PM.

Thanks middleclassmom!
I guess I have to re-learn the rules of coupon use. I thought that "one coupon per purchase" and "one coupon per transaction" were different. I was understanding the "one item per purchase" meant that multiple coupons could be redeemed per multiple items purchased in the same transaction.

Seems many policies are stating that one per purchase no longer means one per item, but now means one per transaction...they have made couponing very difficult...ugh

Taking these policies to the store would actually make things worse for us. Walmart and Loblaws are claiming the terms "purchase" and "transaction" are synonymous. I wrote P & G for help because they use the term "purchase" in their disclaimer and they probably reimburse more retailers than any other company.
Thanks for contacting P&G, Dan.
I'm happy to help, but first let me say that we can't force stores to take our coupons or follow our guidelines. Stores can determine their own reimbursement rules.
That said, by our guidelines, you can use one coupon per one item up to four. For example, if you have 4-$1 off coupons for Tide, you can use all four coupons if you buy 4 containers of Tide. We limit identical coupon use to four per shopping trip, which can be interpreted as one trip through the check out or one calendar day--determined by the store.
So, if you have 4-$1 Tide and 4-$1 Bounty coupons, you can use all 8 if you buy 4 Tide and 4 Bounty products.
Hope this clears up any confusion.
Karen
