ON never had points for precriptions but some other provinces especially in the west always had points for precriptions .
I guess OHIP was smart or maybe cheap & didn't want the points ..the drug plans are funded by the various provincial governments & not federal gov. hence depending on the province the plans/coverage vary .

That is the store's spin on it. Most provinces have gov't funded drug programs and that helps keep the prices down (have you heard about the crazy prices they pay for meds in the US?). The gov't is probably telling the pharmacies that they have to reign in costs so they're cutting benefits to their customers.

I just got off the phone with the pharmacy dept at Shoppers in Esquimalt and they were told 2016 was when the points were going to stop. We both kind of chuckled at the oddness of such a far off date.
I then called Safeway at Tillicum and she also heard June 1 of this year but didn't think this was feasible as they haven't prepared for notifying customers, etc.
So quite conflicting info.Last edited by momof3heathens; Wed, Apr 27th, 2011 at 08:33 PM. Reason: additional info

I know this is crazy. I use to go to Zellers for many many years now Safeway for the air mile's but was near a SDM today and that is how I found out. I couldn't agree more the doctors should STOP giving out so many unneeded prescriptions to people. I am going to miss my air mile points!!!!!!!

I used to get points at Zellers for drugs until the government stopped it but for diabetics, you still get points on needles. I have to get them for my cat and I always get hbc points for them. And as an earlier poster said buy a shoppers gift card and use that to pay for the drugs if you're getting them at Shoppers. At least you'll get the gift card points.

I hope save on foods doesn't have to quit points on prescriptions!!!
That's where we get ours and we get SOM points on the amount we pay, as well as the amount our insurance coverage pays. It really adds up and it's one of the reasons I've had my prescriptions with them for 10 years!!
With over $500/month for asthma medications that's lots of points on our card--it would REALLY suck if they had to discontinue it. ;(

good lord!! I guess all of us who are prescribed medications for anything that happens to keep us alive, like low thyroid, Gerd ( gastrointestinal reflux etc) Asthma, Diabetis are not actually needing those medications.......what a bunch of bull!!!
Perhaps the government would prefer us to enter the hospital for frequent treatments due to not having medication instead, lets see how that goes about saving money...lol!!
As it is I have to pay for the privilage of having lactaid for lactose intolerance, so I can drink milk or eating any milk products. I use 2 with my morning coffee, 2 with any meal that has milk in it, and drink a few cups of coffee each day. The irony is I have been ordered to increase my calcium and milk is the way to go other than supplements......none of these are covered by any plan I am on now....... it cost me a small fortune.....ak!!!
My daughter on a disability income has coverage for Lactaid, and she take more than I on a daily basis........
