Canadian grocery stores make $3.27M per year from penny-rounding: UBC

Canadian grocery stores have been on the winning end, thanks to the no-longer-in-circulation penny, according to a University of British Columbia researcher.

Christina Cheng says grocers are pulling in more than $3 million a year, simply from rounding up at the till. But the Retail Council of Canada is disputing her findings, saying she didn't take into account various provincial taxes. And it says it's found that penny-rounding is about 50-50, with half of the bill totals being rounded up and benefiting stores, while the others are rounded down and benefit consumers.

    Good morning fellow racers!

I made an effort to do some Christmas shopping over the weekend and I got a lot accomplished. Hopefully I can get the rest done on Tuesday night and then all I would have to do is worry about residuals and stocking stuffers.

While I was shopping at the Bramalea City Centre, I was please to see that in the same location as the old HMV store, which closed last spring, is a Sunrise Records store. Now I have a place where I can buy CDs again, and most of the staff there is the same! I know I can order CDs on line, but I like browsing through the CDs (they even have records there) and have something jump out at me. This occasion, the Rolling Stones Tattoo You CD jumped at me so I gave it a good home.

I can't wait until Boxing Day/Week so I can go nuts and adopt a few more CDs. I feel like a kid again!

A couple was invited to a swanky, fancy dress Christmas party.
Unfortunately, the wife came down with a terrible headache and told her husband to go to the party alone.
He protested, but she said she was going to take some aspirin and go to bed and there was no need for his good time being spoiled by not going.
So he took his costume and away he went.
The wife, after sleeping soundly for about an hour, awakened without pain and, as it was still early enough, decided to go the party.
Since her husband did not know what her costume was, she thought she would have some fun by watching her husband to see how he acted when she was not with him.
She joined the party and soon spotted her husband cavorting around on the dance floor, dancing with every nice woman he could, and copping a little touch here and a little kiss there.
His wife sidled up to him and being a rather seductive babe herself, he left his current partner high and dry and devoted his time to the new babe that had just arrived.
Finally, he whispered a little proposition in her ear and she agreed. So off they went to one of the cars and had a quickie.
Just before unmasking at midnight, she slipped away, went home, put the costume away and got into bed, wondering what kind of explanation he would give for his behaviour.
She was sitting up reading when he came in, and she asked what kind of a time he had.
He said: "Oh, the same old thing. You know I never have a good time when you're not there."
“Oh is that right, and did you dance much ?"
"You know, I never even danced one dance.
When I got there I met Pete, Bill and some other guys, so we went into the den and played poker all evening… but you're not going to believe what happened to the guy I loaned my costume to...."

Was at Town Center yesterday (bit of a mess!) was going to go out to Vaughn Mills today but our furnace stopped working yesterday and when they came out this morning they said they needed to get another part and would be back at 7 p.m. tonight, they came back but opened the new package and found it was defective! So guess it will be another cool night until they return tomorrow!!! Just wish it could have been resolved because we would have gone out to Vaughn Mills or the X-Mas market again.......not to mention not freezing over night!!! oh well, we shall survive........

Makes cents to me. Everything is priced like .99 or $1.39 or 2.99.
These scammers are so good we don't even know we're getting scammed.
