We had a Great time last night. The atmosphere was fantastic. It was a night of celebration for the athletes. I'm not a fan of Kanye West, but the athletes loved him and after all this was an event catering to them. 1000 of the volunteers were allowed on the field of play to watch the athletes parade into Roger's Centre, and then we were allowed to mingle and party with the athletes during the closing ceremonies performance. . Best party we have been to in a long time!

That must have been cool to be right down there on the floor seeing everything from the athletes perspective as opposed to seeing the show from the stands.
Also, I saw on TV that you and the other 999 volunteers were separated from the volunteers who were dancing.

Glad to hear you had a good time! It really is a unique experience. Hopefully if we get the Olympics, you can do that again.... heck, I might join you!

Had a great 3 nights at the streetfest down here, was there Thurs, Friday and Saturday nights and during the day Saturday and Sunday......wish it wasn't over..............Saturday night among others I went to see Jerome Godboo who always puts on a good show (he was there Saturday night and Paul James in his spot Fri. and Thurs) Greg Godovitz was playing with him so talked to him a bit about his old bands etc after the set and got a few pics. He has been in so many bands over the years that I've liked. Him and Jerome have been friends for years since they've both played around for a long time. Haven't had a minute to do anything else, got a little time this morning before playing a game this afternoon so gotta run..........

Cyclist Safety Legislation Changes

• To support cycling in urban areas, allowing contra-flow bicycle lanes will help provide more direct routes and connectivity for cyclists.
• The fine for a “dooring” conviction increased to $300-$1,000 and 3 demerit points. “Dooring” occurs when a driver or passenger in a parked vehicle opens a door without first checking and, as a result, hits a cyclist.
• A new requirement for all drivers is to keep a distance of one metre when passing cyclists.
• The maximum fine for not using required bicycle lights and other reflectors/reflective material increased; and the use of flashing red lights as a safety feature on bicycles is permitted. The previous fine of $20 for not using required bicycle lights and reflective material increased to $60–$500.

There ought to be a ticket for the dum-dums who open their doors when a car is approaching as well.

I watched the Closing Ceremony of the Pan Am games last night, but I fell asleep in front of the TV when Kanye apparently threw his microphone. I am not a fan, but I would have loved to see that. I am also not a fan of Pitbull, but his show was high energy and a lot better that Kanye.

Kanye West Smashes Mic After Technical Problems At Closing Ceremonies

Nearly 40,000 spectators packed Toronto's Rogers Centre to raise a toast to Canada's athletes - and their record-setting 217-medal haul - at the Pan Am Games closing ceremony. Kayne West lived up to his hype until tossing his microphone into the air and walking off stage after becoming frustrated with a faulty mic during his closing song. He then walked off the stage as the crowd called for him to come back, it didn't end up happening.

Maybe they could get a professional next time who doesn't act like a petulant child in front of their fans.

Good morning, everyone.

Dealing with a rootbeer hangover this morning (suffice to say, I overindulged ), so mostly naptime today - playtime with the brats will have to wait til tomorrow. On the plus side, I got to meet some nice young athletes from Puerto Rico, who couldn't get over the welcome they received in Toronto. Yeah for us Canadians making our visitors feel at home!

The only downside was my stupidity in not checking whether my camera battery was charged. Ugh. I felt like an idiot watching the fireworks, holding a camera that wouldn't turn on.

Of course, it's not over yet. ParaPanAm's Opening Ceremony is Aug 7th - I'll have to make sure I'm prepared for that. In the meantime, I'm leaving the flag in the window showing our Canadian pride. Welcome, everyone! GoCanadaGo!

Greetings friends. I'm still shaking my head over Kayne West.....I mean really? Serena Ryder was sensational though wasn't she? I enjoyed the closing ceremonies & I'm always touched by the camaraderie of friendship that is so evident. The organizers did a great job, it must have had so many logistical stumbling blocks, so way to go!

Maybe the Olympics are in our future after all. I'm remembering Mel Lastman & his ridiculous cannibal comments from just over a decade ago. (what a meathead he could be)
