im looking for same advice, my kid is 13 months today and in the GTA as well. Wondering what I can do to keep him entertained and loving the summer.

Im thinking of visiting Centre Island
Taking him camping with friends and their kids

    But what else?

There are usually inexpensive programs at public parks and paddling pools.
Museums, some have free children's activities.
    Free Canada Day events.

Last summer, we went on little hikes. I always put them in swimming lessons for the summer. Your local visitor center should have some pamphlets on summer ideas. I know we have 100 things to do in summer.....not sure if that is Canada Wide. Hope that helps. Oh, we also go to the water parks.

Ooh well I know what I am taking my kids to see this summer, in Toronto. Ontario Place is celebrating their 40th anniversary and is offering free grounds admission all summer long. Now what is cool about this is that many of the live shows are included for free! We are planning to head down on July long weekend to take the kids to see Thomas the Train and Pingu.

Here is a link to the website if you're interested, it has a calendar of events:

you could try a theme day: ( pick a theme, related craft and snack. ) for example:

Dinosaur day, pirate day, back yard beach bash.

you could do a breakfast picnic outside,
could try a scavenger hunt, ( might be fun for the 3 yr old)
could make solar smore's outside ( wrap marshmallow, chocolate & graham cracker in foil and leave in sun for 10 min)
    side walk chalk....

At the Toronto Zoo, kids 3 and under are free. So you'd just have to pay for yourself, about $20 I believe) and you can make a day out of it. Pack lunches and snacks and pick a nice day. It's a great chance for them to see all the fun animals. I also believe they have strollers (I checked it out, a double stroller rental is $8 plus a $5 deposit you get back) so they won't get too tired, and they can nap in them under the shade if it's not too hot. Here's the website if you wanna check out any special events if your three year old really likes a certain animal or something: http://www.torontozoo.com/

The Ontario Science center also has a kids exhibit specifically for kids under the age of 8: http://www.ontariosciencecentre.ca/t...xhibitionid=81

You could also do something like a picnic, when you bring lunch to a park and lets the kids play before they eat. Maybe get some ice cream or baked goodie after as a treat! Indoors would work too if it's rainy.

Decorate cookies or cupcake and let them help in the measuring etc. of making them. This would be great for a rainy day.

Swimming is another great idea- the three year old may be able to be in a class with an instructor, and there are also days where you can go with your baby/toddler and play around in the water with them.

We're going to the Zoo tomorrow!!!!! I ordered tickets with my Air Miles.

Please tell me that this stroller rental business is just for people who haven't already got themselves a double stroller that they like and push everywhere and are getting their dh to load into the trunk of their car?

There is a free pass for ages 4-12 in this weekend's Mark's Work Wearhouse flyer.

As to entertaining the little ones, I would go to the beach as often as possible before they are closed. Or any sort of wading pools. My kids love the beach. They also love when I fill up the little kiddie pool in the backyard.

You can also look into programs offered by your local Ontario Early Years Centre. I've used them a lot this mat leave. They cut down a lot on programming around here in the Summer, but I don't know about Toronto. It's a great set-up though. They have great toys and staff to help entertain the kids.

I've also met some other cool moms there.

my dd is in swim lessons,we usually go to my parents cottage but this year i have a few ideas that i hope we get to try out which are
-the theme day idea someone mentioned( i think easier if u can do them at your house...hard to get out with a toddler)
-signed her up for swimming again this year
-she was in library and i am looking if they have a summer program again (its free)
-want to try camping out in the backyard
    -may go to zooz
    -try mini golfing
    -want to go to marineland
    -beaches
    -going to parents cottage again
-fireworks and activies on canada day

We already went to the butterfly conservatory, had little picnics, library, trying different parks, cottage.IT is hard to get kids out but really hope we can get out as much as possible
