How heartwarming to hear that there are all of you to look out for seniors! Maybe this world won't be so bad when we're old and grey if you're all raising considerate children.

And maybe, by then, they'll have made a GPS car finder. I'm a half senior already because I always forget where I parked. It's more of a priority that I have the keys with me rather than in the locked car!

My grandma had called me during the winter saying she passed out outside , and no one stopped to help her or call 911 ! She lives in the middle of downtown Ottawa.. I find it funny no one 'saw' her. Makes me so angry. On top of the fact it was winter !

"There but for the grace of God, go I" is how I often think - it's not only the elderly, it's people who are ill, physically or mentally challenged, etc.

I know I've even been the beneficiary of kindnesses like that - recently when I had a hurt knee, all bandaged up, but HAD to get to the mailbox to mail something important, the box is on the far side of a plaza near our house. So I walked across the street, down around the corner to the plaza - and hit that point where you realize you really shouldn't have walked with an injury (because you have to get back home!) - and I stopped to think about whether I should turn back (I was halfway), when a woman about my age spotted me as she came out of a store partway down, she ran up to me, asked if she could mail my letter - which she obviously noticed in my hand - and I so very gladly said yes, and thanked her profusely.

So I hope when I am able, I help others - because it's so kind to receive help when I am in need!

GOD BLESS YOU! I am a PCW here in Calgary, and I only deal with seniors with and without dementia.Its so hard to not cry for them.Please everyone help our seniors as we will one day(God willing) be elderly. and we will need someone like you!

I can't stand all this patronizing stuff about seniors. The elderly in this country brought down the Third Reich fer crissake. My Grandfather fought a war and my Grandma made bombs! BOMBS! They don't need our pity or our tears because they're now old and weak. They just need to be treated with common decency like we should treat everyone we come across.

I work with seniors every damn day and I have never once pitied them. Respect-yes. Admiration-yes. Graditude-yes. Fascination-yes. Annoyance-sure, sometimes. Never one ounce of pity though.

If my Grandma was still alive, she could kick all of your asses and then make you some chocolate chip cookies!

I don't recall ever saying I pity them or saying their old and week everyone needs a helping hand once in a while. Instead of assuming what we are trying to say maybe you should look in the mirror and realize how harsh you are. I am sure your grandmother would not like you disrespecting people.

I'm not familiar with a "mirior" - is it an indicator of harshness? Was it in that 1992 cult classic movie "CANDYMAN"(you know, with Oscar nominee Virginia Madsen before she got all "serious movie-ish)?" Was it forged in the fires of Mount Doom?

Betholio, as long as you're doing the "mirior" thing, you might want to find out if there's a "tallinator" as well. I assume that's a machine for making you taller(it tops out at 5"11" though.....wowzers, NBA is sooo in sight!!) so that you can reach the last, dented, dusty, expired can of discounted beans for that slighted senior in your life.

I believe we should all do our best to help one another. Whether it's a senior who is no longer able to do as much, a lady trying to juggle grocery bags with two small kids, a young person on crutches due to a broekn leg or just someone who seems to be having a rough day. We all deserve the care and respect from others. That is not pity but empathy.

I too feel for seniors, and generally those with disabilities. I am noting in my own parents that things are not as easy for them as they used to be and I like to hope that someone would give them a hand if they needed it. I will do the same for someone else's parents.

One things I am realizing as I watch my parents age and deal with health issues is that we all have to take care of ourselves in our younger years. Prevention is so important and remainng active and fit while we can will absolutely pay off later.

Unfortunately my Dad did not make an effort to stay particularily active as he started to deal with some health issues. Recently he has had to have surgey and I believe it is that much harder for him to recover becuase he didn't have a lot of core strength to begin with.

Most people were forced to work in factories during the wars, while the men were at war. On top of that a lot of businesses went down in the shlumps because there was not many people left to work (men were gone) so the ladies HAD to make a living some way or another. I mean, no income, feeding a family. I'm sure it wasn't their ideal career choice but it got the job done.

Maybe YOU need a different career choice, just an idea.

Maybe I missed something, but I thought that helping someone in need (elderly or otherwise) was just a common courtesy. It's sad if it's become something out of the ordinary that we need to pat someone on the back for.
