Went to ss wholesale today, went to get a shopping cart (the ones where ya need a loonie) They was a very old man trying to get his money in the cart. I swear he looked to be about 90 years old. I was behind him waiting, and noticed he was having troubles. I approached him and the poor man had tears in his eyes
He was frusterated as he couldn't get his loonie in. I grabbed my loonie and put it in for him, and gave him the cart. He was so appreciative. Found out why his loonie wouldn't work, he had a quarter behind his loonie and it wouldn't go in. I cannot imangine how frusterated he must have been and how bloody hard it is being a senior. For him to have tears in his eyes out of frusteration of himself, that is just sad. I had to walk back into my van to calm myself down. I felt so sorry and helpless for him. Getting old sucks.
Get into the van with heartache and he was walking and dropped his cane, he couldn't bend down to get it, so I jumped out to pick it up. Such a nice man. God I pray for all seniors. This thread is currently associated with: Real Canadian Superstore RCSSLF: $ 4.00 off any covergirl, 2.00 axe,RLF ARMSTRONG cheese, black diamond, 3.00 gain. 2.00 Majesta. I hear ya! I make lunch for and visit with a 91 year old woman in our building and I had to tell her DH and I bought a house and are moving 100km away. She burst into tears and said she has no one. OMG it broke my heart.

OMG..you are so sweet....didn't you help an elderly lady just the other day also - then had your dh's bike stolen, or was that someone else? Anyway...it is very kind of you. My dd8 always holds the door open for people when we go to the bank. Yesterday, she waited for an elderly man to enter the bank...we were leaving, and he didn't even acknowledge her! A thank you would have been nice. She didnt notice though. lol

I know that feeling I use to be a Health Care Aid and on my days off I would bring my son in to the seniors who didn't have anyone. I know it can not be easy for them...I love helping them get the things of the top shelf being 5"11 has it's advantages they always seem to appreciate it. The thing the boggles my mind is people who just pass by them without even thinking of helping them. I was in Walmart one day and this older women who looked 90pounds was trying to lift a big bag of cat food(not doing very well getting it to off the shelf) in her cart someone actually bumped into her kept going like she was invisable I went over and helped her she was so appreciative.

What goes round comes round. Especially Kindness. I remember once I had a Senior who forgot where he Parked his Car. Had to walk him back out to the Mall & we retraced his Steps untill we found it. It's the Tears that Kill you. God Love them all, as we too one Day will be there.

Aw, Hon...you are such a sweet soul...Speaking as a senior, I thank you for noticing him and others...Yes, things that I used to take for granted I don't anymore...bending down to pick up something I dropped some days can be a chore. We visited our DD and her DH and grandson today and they were frolicking in the pool, running up and down the stairs to get towels, etc, and I thought, omg...I can't even remember being young enough to do that! I usually have to take stairs one at a time (if you know what I mean..two feet on each stair) now and it sure doesn't feel pretty. Just driving, or getting in and out of the van we have can be a chore after running a few errands...I know it's going to get worse and one day, like my Mom before me, I'll be using her walker....
So yes, if you're all very lucky, you'll one day be one of those seniors...I didn't see it coming, LOL... but here it is in all it's glory! You just don't expect it...I certainly don't feel like a senior, but most days I can't deny it. My BFF and I go to lunch and shopping and joke (it's not a joke, really) about taking our Tylenol for our painful joints before we head out!
Bette Davis said it best: "Old age isn't for sissies!"
How true...she should have also mentioned that a really good sense of humour helps immensely, too!
Scottie....it's happened to me, and I remember one day in particular...a long shopping trip to our mall, then heading outside, carting heavy bags of stuff, overtired, feet hurting and bones aching and I couldn't for the life of me remember where I parked our car! I must have walked up and down those aisles for a good 20 minutes, still no car in sight..I honestly thought it was stolen. I was about to call our DD at work and have her drive over to pick me up and take me home, then send my hubby to find the car when the parking lot emptied out. I finally spotted it quite a distance from where I thought I had parked it.
Now, each time I park, I face whatever mall I'm at and make a mental note of where I parked. I never want to go through that again!Last edited by Lynn49; Sat, Jul 9th, 2011 at 08:29 PM.
