UPDATE: Today he opened his eyes! So based on normal patterns, that should make him 10 days old today.
This guy is really feisty and a real cryer, but eats like a piglet.
WE gave him the temporary name of "Reggie". He walks very shakily but like his independence. He's a fighter.
On a very sad note, I was walking my dogs in the back field and they took off after something in the woods. . .but only one dog came back. The one lost is 12 years old and deaf. My husband and I spent the last 8 hours roaming the countryside woods looking for him. It's pouring rain. I'm pretty upset.

My female spayed cat, Chloe, just let him search for one of her nipples and she also cleaned him a bit. . . so I'm hopeful she'll show him a little mommy kitty love. . .we'll see. . .

Sorry about your dog, I hope he comes home

As far as the kitten, you can get Kitten Milk Replacement (not the Whiskas cat milk in cartons) and give it to him in a syringe or eye droppers. That is what our shelter does with 'hand-feeders' and our vet says its much better than pablum. If he sucks, you can try a bottle too, Walmart and Petsmart have kitten starter kits with the little bottles and syringes
Their mothers keep them warm so if you have a hot water bottle, put it under some towels in a small box to keep him safe (they should not have too much space in the box)

I suggest to put a little clock next to/under his blanket when he sleeps, the sound (tic-tac) would remember him the beat of the heart of his mommy

Heartbreaking that someone would place a living creature in a dumpster like a piece of garbage, with no food or water waiting to get crushed up. Like seriously, it would make more sense to just to leave them in the park or something. Bless you for taking the kitten. I wish that they would crack down on animal abuse. Reminds me of the dog corpse I discovered in a garbage bag laying on the floor in the garbage garage of my apartment building. I had the feeling, since there was a sick pitbull in the lobby the night before and in the morning when I went to check on it, was no longer there, so I called the animal control, they took the body away and had a talk with the building supervisor whom apparently placed the dog in there.
