Mcbride had the Extreme offer last week and this current week. The flyer coupon only goes 1 week at a time but I overheard a CS Manager explaining to another customer that they will have this for a few weeks. (whatever that means). 2? 4? 6? Anyways, this would be week 2 if anyone is counting.

Yes, it's done automatically at the cash register however, as I rarely spend $100 I can't say for sure. Safeway gets the money so you'd think it would count. However, on 10% Tuesday it's after coupons so I'm guessing the same applies.

The following is a discussion I've been having with a representative of AirMiles. Notice how she tries to avoid answering the questions asked and tries to twist my intent at the end. As she refuses to answer the question it's hard not to have the opinion that they are in fact gouging us. You need to speak up or they're going to get away with it:

All I can see is that it is popular and therefore it's been boosted based on opportunity. Does it cost AirMiles more to buy a $50 Cara card than a $50 Starbuck's card? Did the price to you jump 20%?I'm sure you're aware that I write several blogs relating to AirMiles and one of your largest sponsors. Based on the new values assigned I will be drastically devaluing the value of an AirMile. Thank you again for the response but you sidestepped the questions once more. With that kind of response I am highly unlikely to continue supporting the AirMiles reward program that used to be best in class. Safeway has a tendency to higher prices. My blog postings have shown how to evaluate Safeway prices after considering the value of any AirMile bonuses. I will now have to recalculate the average price of an AirMile. I'm sure it will be down about 20% which means many Safeway products with bonus offers will no longer be competitive. The CBC says my readership online is in the thousands which means Safeway stands to lose significant sales. This will not be from any manipulation from me but directly as a result of your upgrading. The fact that you avoided answering the questions and instead tried to twist my support is obvious to everyone. It confirms an impression based on the original question.

The following is a discussion I've been having with a representative of AirMiles. Notice how she tries to avoid answering the questions asked and tries to twist my intent at the end. As she refuses to answer the question it's hard not to have the opinion that they are in fact gouging us. You need to speak up or they're going to get away with it:

It is probably because Cara is not buying high enough volume of Airmiles points. So Airmiles charge Cara higher price per Airmiles points. So Cara have to lower the redemption value to pay for their higher cost.

Logic of my twisted thinking.

If it costs more to buy a toaster than before then it should require more AMs to redeem.

However, a $50 certificate is still only $50 (with reduced purchasing power over time due to inflation).

I have asked them if it requires more to them to provide this same value card. If it does then then it's reasonable to assume the increased redemption requirement. Yet, both respondents have avoided answering that. Therefore it is reasonable for the consumer to infer that it is not costing them more.

So far they are answering like politicians.
