My Safeway yesterday had none of the Lasagna in stock so they gave out rainchecks. I got the items today and got an extra 10% off my total bill(first Tuesday of the month). The cashier was a little panicked since she had to manually calculate the deductions since the machine wouldn't because it was a raincheck. So I got the items for $5.39 instead.

Fascinating how someone who handles tens of thousands of dollars of transactions per day lacks basic math skills to figure out 10% of 5.99. Did she try and deduct 59.9999999 cents off your purchase, too?

no, it looked like she added all the regular prices of the 3 items then subtracted the $5.99 to get a total amount to discount from the grand total. She had written down so many unreadable upsidedown numbers that I just trusted that did it right... which she did.

    Air Miles flights are increasing!

    (posted on Flyertalk)
    'Effective July 16 '14.

What is the magnitude of the change?
The average increase in the number of reward miles required to be redeemed for flights within Canada, to the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii), to Mexico will be 16%. Some destinations will see a smaller increase, while others will see a larger increase. For example:
•A round-trip flight, in Low season, will now start at 1,200 reward miles (instead of starting from 950 reward miles)
•A flight from British Colombia to Los Angeles will increase by 19% in Low season (1600 reward miles to 1900) and 14% in High season (2275 reward miles to 2600).
•A flight from Ontario to New York City will increase by 13% in Low season (1150 reward miles to 1300) and 14% in High season (1400 reward miles to 1600)."

These increased redemption rates may now include the taxes.. it remains to be seen exactly how this will work.

It's common. Over time they reduce the value. It just seems they've been particularly aggressive lately.

If it doesn't include taxes we should all send airmiles vaseline coupons.

Don't think so; despite an eauction buying orgy, I still have 14,000 Dream miles--but I've NEVER used AM's to fly--have used everything for the eauction buys over the years (including the computer I'm typing this on, and a beautiful HDTV from the last one). But of course, unless the deals improve dramatically, I'll continue to shop elsewhere (SDM wants my business--they've sent me a good bunch of coupons, but I've got a whole whack of points there, too, and I've re-discovered other stores that have pretty good deals, and might have to sign up to this PC PLUS deal). So while I am not pleased with the latest changes, I am not surprised--like I've said previously, everyone is cutting back on expenses; since 2008, nothing will ever be the same again, in a lot of areas.
