That was expected. Sobeys offers Air Miles east of Quebec, and could not in the West because Safeway did. The rest is history.

No kidding! I've been making my cards for years but needed a couple cards while out of town this weekend. Couldn't believe a basic, plain- jane card was $8.99!!! There wasn't one card on display under $6.99! (This was at a Wal Mart) That's utterly ridiculous!

I buy my cards at the Dollar Store. I got a box of 10 birthday cards for $2 and the single cards are $1 each.

Dollar store for me too on cards.

Don't get the Thrifty's flyer here until tomorrow so we'll see how the Island gets treated after the loss of Safeway but Sobey's back east seemed pretty parsimonious with AM offers as I recall.

Hi everyone. I was just wondering if there is a limit to the number of airmiles that Safeway is willing to award daily.
    Thanks
No limit on how many you can earn in a day but there are limits on individual offers.

Basically 10 multiples of an offer to amaximum of 500 AMsper day.

    If an offer is B5G30 buying 50 (10xs) gets 300 (10 x 30) AMs. If you buy 55 (11 x 30) you still only get 300 not 330.

    If an offer is B5G50 buying 50 (10xs) gets 500 (10 x 50) AMs. If you buy 55 (11 x 50) you still only get 500 not 550.

If these 2 above are com[pletely different offers you could buy both and get 500 + 300 = 800 in the day.

The Thrifty flyer shows club Thrifty Foods.. my guess would be they will allow you to convert your points to Air Miles, just as they now let you convert to Aeroplan.

I'd have bought the Old Dutch if the baked was/is eligible.

That was the rule before they stopped using the club card. I wonder how they keep track of the daily limit now. Can we do the multiple transactions per store/per transaction? I thought someone mentioned earlier that they used AM card to keep track of your limits now.

I gather it's tied in to your Air Miles card now according to what people were saying.

Only way to know for sure is to try an overage.

    Re Thrifty + Airmiles:

As I understand it, you don't show your airmiles card during checkout, but rather set it up as an automatic weekly transfer of regular Thriftys points. Sign up and earn thrifty points as usual (1 point per $1 spent) and every week they are transferred to airmiles at the rate of 14 thrifty points converted to 1 airmile. You might want to compare this approach versus just keeping the thrifty points and using them for grocery discounts or merchandise.

Not surprisingly, the value in both cases looks to be about the same. You can get a variety of $25 gift cards for about 3500 Thrifty points, or get a slightly better discount on your groceries during checkout ($25 discount for 3200 points). Converting to airmiles at 14 points to 1 airmile works out as follows:

    3200 points ($25 grocery discount) / 14 = 228 airmiles which @10c each is $23
    3500 points ($25 average giftcard) / 14 = 250 airmiles which @10c each is $25

So, it's a slightly better value to use your thrifty points for a grocery discount, especially if you shop there a lot. But if you are trying to accumulate airmiles for a trip (or next year's e-auction????) then maybe it makes sense to convert.

In either case, don't expect a huge windfall here. Remember, you have to spend over $3000 just to get back about $25, regardless of what approach you take. It's definitely not a replacement for the excellent bonus airmiles offers we used to get (and occasionally still get) from Safeway.

Yes, and Thrifty's doesn't appear to do bonus points.

I'm happy with 10,001 -- it has a nice ring to it:
