My daughter is now almost 8 months old, and usually when we go out a i dress her in pink so that people stop asking me oh is it a little boy.GRRRR . At first i thought it was cute and i did dress her in blue (aswell as every other colour). So i could understand the ohh he is cute. But one converstaion drove me nuts, she is all dressed in pink and the conversation goes like this
Lady: oh cute baby boy or girl
Me:girl
Lady: Oh my he is cute
Me: No she is cute
Lady: oh he has big blue eyes
Me:Yes she has big blue eyes
Lady:He has an adorable smile
Me: he is a she but thank you
Lady:Are you sure?
Me: yes i am sure my daughter is a she
Lady: well she looks like a boy
Then she turns and walks away lol
I know that it sounds funny but everytime we go out someone always asks me if my daughter is a boy.She is in pink. Three times today in the span of one hour. I want to tape a sign on her that says Yes I am a girl. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

I have to admit I've got such limited experience with babies that a lot of time I have no idea what sex the child is! My usual line is "Oh your little one is so cute!" and then the parents usually say something like "Aww thank you! He/She is ___ months old". It doesn't upset the parents and keeps me from looking stupid by messing the sex of the child up!

Nothing you can really do for the most part i just smile and say she is a girl and thank them, but was a bit frustrating today when more then one in less then an hour asked me if she was a girl while all dressed in pink lol. What did make me mad was the lady who kept insisting on calling her a boy after i repeatedly told her that she was a girl. LOl oh well thats my little rant.

I've had it both ways...
DD1 had short hair until she was about 6 and then it grew overnight. But before that , even in a pink dress, tights and flashy sparkly shoes..."What's his name??'" girlname"..."funny name for a boy!"
DS was like the fairytale princess...crop his hair and the next day past his shoulders again...Long blond hair, macho clothes and boots... " She's a pretty one!"
I always go for "what a cutie! " and hope the colour/clothes gives it away...
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

I get that too even when my DD is dressed in all pink. My youngest DS had a onesie that said "100% Boy". Wish I could find the girl version, lol

I say, pick your battles...you have to say to yourself: does this woman's opinion really mean so much to me?

As a child, I was called a boy from infancy until about age 8. At that point, I grew my hair out a bit so it became more obvious that I was a girl. That said, my baby pictures do look very boy-ish (I HATED anything and everything pink, and would only wear fire-engine red, green, brown or blue), I was very masculine acting as well, so I could see how people could make the mistake. My Mom just ignored what people had to say; she would correct the person once and if they couldn't be bothered to listen, she would just walk away. I'd suggest just walking away if it gets annoying; there's no point getting frustrated over other peoples' ignorance and inability to listen!
