Bird Sightings Please Post!

it's very nice to see wich birds other people across the coutry can see.

i'm not coming on this forum very often but i think i'll be visiting it more this year

We are very blessed to have Pileated Woodpeckers here. I live on land backing onto the north Saskatchewan river so we get great varieties here, but the Pileated Woodpeckers are my fav. They are woodpeckers that would put you in mind of "Woody the Woodpecker". They are the size of a loaf of bread or bigger. They have that great bright red comb and markings. When they are in the trees outside my house you would swear someone is using an air hammer. They are so loud but I love them!

I looked up a picture of this bird.

They look very majestic!

Thanks Skippy for the IPOD THINGY and ya I like bird sounds. Mostly Blue Jays & Black capped chickadee's at my feeder and a woodpecker.

It is cool when you can identify birds by their sound.

Often they fly away too fast for me to identify them by looks.

the one that i'm sure about is "crow"
i call them "flying dogs" because around here they act like dogs "barking at every event in the backyard" lol

I was going through my pictures and I can across some pics of birds that I know Skippy would enjoy,And of course everyone else.

The first ones where taken at the Royal Botanical Gardens In Hamilton. You can hand feed them.

These next guys where taken in our back yard

Today was very busy at the feeder since it is so cold here(-20 at 9am). so we had blue jays ,the whole team and starlings,woodpeckers,house sparrows,cardinals and little juncos.The mourning doves like to sit on our roof around the chimney on these cold days. Yesterday a sharpshin hawk came hunting but the doves were too quick and he flew away empty handed-so to speak.

do you know their names.......i know some but i'm uncertain about others....and i only know their french names :-(
i wonder what they are

1) look a little like a "mesange" (french) i think the english is "tit"
2) 3) clueless
4) "tourterelle triste" in english is " mourning dove"
5) "carouge a epaulettes" (french)

#5 Is indeed a Red Wing Blackbird(En anglais)

The second one is a Hairy Woodpecker or sometimes know as aDowny WoodpeckerPicoides pubescens

And the First one I believe is a Black-Capped Chickadee Parus atricapillus

confirmed,
the "Black-Cappped Chickadee" is (in french ) "Mesange a tete noire"
they are the rare birds that stay in here during the winter.

and i know the Woodpeckers but didn't know this one was one of them

I thought they were pretty docile and dumb looking.Boy was I wrong!

Today one scared away a sparrow or something like that from the feeder.

I was really suprised because I have seen them share the feeder before.
