Mother Teresa sainthood expected
Vatican City (AFP) - Pope Francis has recognised a second miracle attributed to the late Mother Teresa, clearing the path for the nun to be elevated to sainthood next year, the Vatican said Friday.
Mother Teresa, celebrated for her work with the poor in the Indian city of Kolkata, is expected to be canonised as part of the pope's Jubilee year of mercy.
In the Vatican's Jubilee calendar, September 4 is already marked as a day dedicated to the late nun's memory and her canonisation is likely to take place then, experts say.

This is a tragedy. She was not who people thought she was and the first "miracle" has been debunked.

As a great American philosopher, sage and selfless public servant - and perhaps one day a saint herself - once said "What difference – at this point, what difference does it make?"

This time I have to agree with Patty...the Catholic Church needs some good press as usual, so why not make someone a saint?
She filled her charity's coffers as does the church...she learned well from them, filling their bank accounts and brandy glasses while the poor die in the streets, all the while making others guilty for not giving more money to the church even if they can ill afford it.
Sainthood seems pretty easy to come by these days.

Both of you are quoting the same study, from several years ago - nothing further since then. One study should never be a declaration of truth, right?
Aside from that, maybe you two are under the impression that saints are 'perfect'? Canonized saints were not perfect when they walked the earth.

Sadly I have to agree that Mother Teresa was not what she appeared to be

Hitchins was hardly credible - and what veracity does Penn have on this topic, either?
And, yes, I've read everything and seen the posted - and other videos, as well.

Yes, Hitchens wasn't exactly unbiased.

Why because he is an atheist? What hidden agenda might there be in exposing her on his part? What has he to gain except to expose another fraudulent aspect of religion?
The church has not proven any of these miracles and they even had to change their rules in order to even consider her. I don't see what the problem is. The burden of proof is not on those who don't believe it's on those who do believe.
