the point of the entire thing was that she insulted my son. not me. the people who came in here to hate on me are the ones questioning my parenting. the title of the thread refers to the fact that people think i am younger than i am and therefore find me incapable of doing things properly.
it sort of muddled together into one.
i in no way shape or form regret how i reacted. if anything i feel i under-reacted. I can only hope that in the future the lady who was slinging insults at a baby will realize that people don't just sit idly by and take it. One day perhaps, someone without my restraint will be on the end of one of her digs and she will end up physically regretting her words. who knows?Feel free to use my shop.ca referral link! OP, I'm really sorry that your son was called those nasty names. While I don't have children, I can empathize with parents out there because I used to babysit my niece and nephew over the summers while in University, and totally understand that they act up when they're tired. And, I also understand that you've got twice as much to deal with, as he might possibly be autistic (which requires you to be really tough and strong).
As I said, I used to babysit my niece and nephew as a p/t summer job. So, naturally, I'd have to take them out to stores if I needed to get something. I'd go dressed in jeans and tees, and as a University student, was pretty young. I'd get the un-wed mother comments, the baby having babies comments etc etc. But, I'd never respond to them. Quite simply, they're not worth it. They're already small-minded, and have made a fool of themselves (you should see the looks on their faces when my niece called me "Aunt Chris"). I'm certainly not going to even respond to such behaviour in the first place. Why would I want to give any yahoo out there the satisfaction that his/her dumb comment was even worth a response from me? No way!!!! Next time OP, ignore. That's the best way to pay them back.Last edited by ChristieJ; Tue, Jun 26th, 2012 at 06:09 PM.

I don't want to start any trouble, but speaking as a childless person, what is in my mind worse than a screaming child, is the parent screaming at the screaming child. That is what drives me.
I don't like screaming children. I once took a flight and for four hours had a screaming baby behind me (nothing you can do about that on a flight
. To get away, I decided to try to plan where people wouldn't take kids. I thought well the parents won't take the baby and toddler to the airport pub. I was wrong, I was there ten minutes and what happens, the screaming baby (still screaming) and parents sit at the table behind me, out of all the empty tables, they had to sit there and torture my ears some more. Needless to say I didn't order, I got up and went to the quieter Tim Hortons. Just my luck. I guess they saved me some money that day, instead of a $15 burger, I had a $3 soup.
Way worse are the screaming parents. I wonder well what are the kids learning. I did call the police on one mother being very verbally abusive to her toddler, and somewhat physically abusive, cursing at the child, pulling it by it's arm. I was so glad to see the police pull up rather quickly to talk to the mom. Some people just shouldn't be parents. The behaviour of some of them make me worry about what that baby or child has to go through in private if this is the way the parent behaves in public.
I don't like screaming babies so I don't have a baby, I don't want a baby. I would like to adopt a child someday, but not a baby as I can't stand their screaming. I try to avoid areas with screaming children. If I walk into a restaurant and see a large amount of children running amok, I go somewhere else, grocery store if there are children unparented running around I just get in and out as quick as I can. As mainly I can't stand the screaming voice of the parent. I understand children are frustrating, but when you make the choice to have children and keep said children, then you should put up with all the stress that involves without screaming your lungs at them. I expect kids to be loud, I don't expect the parents to yell across a store "Timmmmyyy Doooonnn't DOooooo THAAAAATTTTT", I expect the parent to go over to the child or keep the child near them as they shop, instead of yelling.
Once I can handle the sound of screaming children then I will know I am ready to adopt. I just pray I won't be one of those screaming parents.Last edited by matrix82; Tue, Jun 26th, 2012 at 06:25 PM.

I understand it's your child and why you were offended. And, I understand it's your opinion that she needed to be singled out. I just hope you can understand what my opinion is: It's not worth it in the end. You'll never see that woman again, and you'll have just become riled up for a nobody. Life is so hard as it is. I think we really need to pick our battles sometimes.

Walkonby I am confused by your response to mine on the 'everyone treats me like a child ' post.. I made no comment at all on the isolated incident of her parenting skills.. just on the fact that she has the same problems with people treating her like a child everywhere she goes..

Wow matrix82 is shows that you don't have kids!
ChristieJ My kids ARE my battle. No talking about eye rolling, sight or mumble...We are talking about verbal abuse towards a child from a stranger. That is a battle that needs to be dealt with, that person needs to know that name calling a child is a unacceptable behavior!

OP, I mean no offense, because I really like you from what I've seen on SC. But please, hear me out. You're an excellent mother according to your opinion (I don't know because I don't know you. But, I also don't doubt it either, since you have proven to me you'd do anything for your children).
If you're an excellent mother, why do you care about others making judgements or assumptions about you and your parenting style. It seems to me you know you're an excellent mother for your own books. Isn't that all you need?
Did the woman at Value Village do something else OP? Because I can't see how her calling your boy an effing re***d can be considered parenting from afar. I'm no Psychologist, but I don't think calling a child that is called parenting.Last edited by ChristieJ; Tue, Jun 26th, 2012 at 07:34 PM.
