The first official painting of the Duchess of Cambridge has been unveiled to mixed reviews from critics.
Paul Emsley's work took several months using a technique of building thin layers of oil and glazes on canvas.
The artist had two sittings with the duchess and also worked from a series of photographs he took.
The portrait is now on display at London's National Portrait Gallery, which commissioned the work. The duchess is the gallery's patron.

I like that it's natural looking - but not that it makes her look way older.
Oh, it's actually quite large, so in perspective, it actually looks better. I give it a thumbs-up!

he should have softened her manly features. i'm sorry but she is not a pretty girl.
there is far to much of a shadow on the side of her face.

It looks like her except he made her eyes so ...life less kinda scary actually and she looks aged dramatically.

I couldn't place why this portrait is giving me a weird feeling.. so I carefully looked at the images.. the painting's wrong.. the right eyebrow is too arched, chin is too wide and the nose is a little smaller and different shape.. I agree it makes her look much older and run down.
She's more vibrant in the photo.

While better than I could have done, I agree that the artist has aged her. There is just something really weird about it. Slightly creepy.
