In a week if I don't have any work on repairs I am contacting the rentalmen's office. I believe that if it comes down to it, I would then pay my rent to the rentleman's office (government) until the repairs are done.
If I held back rent, they would be able to evict me.Try out the maven box by julep And code FREEFB, and get your box for one cent:

Good for you. Sorry you are having a difficult time. I have to say I was having a bad day and feeling sorry for myself. But reading this post I have to say that I am lucky enough to be able to own my own home and don't like in an apartment. For that I am grateful because it sounds difficult.
For the slow drain I would recommend trying one of these on it and see if it helps. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en
I find they are more effective than drain cleaner if you can get to the P-trap and grab some of the stuff that is lodged in there. Just make sure that you do it first because if you have put down drain cleaner it can come back up at you when you try and pull this out and it burns.

What gets to me, is just last night the company that owns my building was on the news about this great new environmentally green building which is being built in back of the building I live in. It was praising them for the new innovation. In the back of my mind I think, sure they can spend all this money with the new building but they can't fix issues in their existing buildings. I would love the news to do a story on how run down their other apartments/buildings are.

Yes, they are reasonable.
Just pay rent one day late and see how these guys will act or if you damage the apartment even slightly they will ask you to pay for it.
You are paying them rent , so you have every right to have a decent place to live in.
Lot of slum landlords out there. They will check your references , your pay stub , your bank record , your whole life history , SIN etc etc when renting you an apartment , but when it comes to being responsible themselves they don't care .
Their attitude is that you are going to be a bad tenant so they screen you till the cows come home , but when it comes to them they will lie through their teeth and won't hold their end of the agreement, and will give you a shabby place to live in. never believe their promises , more often than not they never get the repairs done after you sign a lease as they know you are stuck.

I live in a 4 appart Building and was rassured the landlors had a construction big business....not 3 year later...he never come ...never do anything and he is cheap...so the sentence for me...''I will never be in trouble they will fix when something falling appart...not true'' You have to call them and ask ,ask, ask and a reasonnable thing like a spoil door is ...so dispensive!!! they cannot change it...'' wow....but after all...it will be their trouble if the appartment ...fall into piece..they will be down in their investment....not me...its how I think about it for now...even it is littles things to repair is not my job and my money I will put in here!!!

Got a response quickly after I posted on the company's facebook page, just asking if there were plans on renovating apartments in this building (as I know a few have been nicely renovated). More caulking has peeled off the sink, revealing more rust, from the looks of things the sink and tub may both need to be replaced. If anything I just want it noted so that if the tub starts leaking, my insurance is not on hold for the damages (outside of if it were somethign I did like let the tub overflow).
It also isn't nice paying rent and rather expensive rent to live in an apartment that is falling apart. I can't wait to have the tub drain fixed.Try out the maven box by julep And code FREEFB, and get your box for one cent:

Now my bedroom door doesn't close. We usually don't close the door as we have three cats, so I am not sure if it was broken when we moved in or not. It seems to be crooked on the hinge if that makes sense, the hinge seems to be separated from the door and the door cracked.
Also not sure if we need to get this fixed, but all our light switches have started to make a pop noise and once in a while I get zapped by it.Try out the maven box by julep And code FREEFB, and get your box for one cent:

It is fixed, it is fixed, it is fixed. After 2.5 months it is fixed, all of it.
Two repair guys and most of the morning, not sure how long the rust fix will be (they got rid of the rust through a steel brush and rust inhibitor, then re-enameled those parts. Re-caulked the whole tub including enclosure and sink, new toilet handle, checked the electrical system and faulty switches, fixed the bedroom door and patio door, re-glued the counter-top etc. I no longer feel like i live in an expensive dive.Try out the maven box by julep And code FREEFB, and get your box for one cent:

I'm glad everything got fixed, lets hope it stays fixed and nothing new pops up.
I envy those of you a little bit. My landlords can barely walk. They are a very very old couple who both use walkers to get around (very very slowly) and neither have any teeth whatsoever and only wear their dentures 1% of the time. DH and I call one "hop-a-long" and the other "toothless". Its mean but seriously!?
If there are ever anything needing done around the building like just normal day to day upkeep of the building we have immigrants from Mexico who do them and do not speak or understand any english at all. I assume one of them must understand and speak english otherwise the others wouldn't know what to do. Its definitely frusterating.Insert Clever Signature Here

The rust has come through on the tub again. The spray paint they used only lasted a week. I'm just going to cover it with some acrylic paint I have for painting.
