Just had a nice little chat with a couple of people. Don't know if they know of my "flight from plight," but they showed me great kindness. For that, I thank them.

Good morning! Ah, these last few mornings have started at 2 a.m., so it's even ickier than my prior 3 a.m. starts!
Today is my husband's birthday, so we'll have a special supper and celebration tonight!

Good morning everyone!
WHAT an enjoyable week in Washington! I think we took as many pictures of the architecture there as we did of cherry trees! And paintings at their art gallery which we visited twice to get through it all. The Smithsonian history of the US was so much fun...I didn't think I'd be as curious and intrigued as I was to see Julia Child's kitchen plopped in there exactly as it was when she used it for her cooking shows!
Our hotel was perfect...the lobby staff and concierge couldn't have been more welcoming not just when we checked in, but each time we returned from our adventures; our "Victorian" room was huge...the main room, then an anti-room where the fridge was (hidden in another beautiful bureau), as well as a table for two where our breakfast tray was placed when we ordered in. The washroom was divided into two rooms, and little things like the amenities, the light in the closet...we'd absolutely stay there again.
We booked tickets on a "hop on, hop off" big bus to get to the memorial sites which were incredible...particularly the Lincoln Memorial. A park ranger was stationed there and we listened to his 45-minute talk about Lincoln, his life, his sense of humour and the details he so thoughtfully incorporated into his speeches...I could have spent most if the day there! We went on to the Vietnam memorial, where my maiden name was...it's an unusual name so it was so strange to see it there. Seeing row after row of names of the men and women who died during that war...until I saw them, I don't think
I grasped the full and sad extent of their losses. Then to the WW11 memorial...so impressive! So large...! One thing they sure know how to do there, is build impressive monuments and statues! And host great parades! Thank heavens I ordered grandstand seats! The weather was perfect, 79 degrees, then rain on the day we flew out, yesterday. I have a bit of a tan...
Anyway....I won't keep gushing. Washington is an amazing city and both of us would enjoy visiting again. After NYC!
I hope everyone stayed well....oh! ALL our snow is gone! We left big snow banks, but they disappeared! Our DD said two days of torrential rains helped.I hope there's NO snow anywhere for any if you, too!
Take good care and have a lovely day!

For those interested in art, here's a site with a video/audio presentation of many of the works of art there. We had hand-held audio gadgets that, when we found a painting with a number, we just keyed it in, and learned so much about the artists' thoughts and the details he or she painted into them.
Anyway...here's a link for you, if you'd like to "tour" many of the gallery's artworks..

oooh! thanks Lynn I bookmarked that link for DH , he eats that stuff up!! Sounds like your trip went off without a hitch, and the weather was warm and beautiful too! At least you missed many of the last Target tears here, poor Target shoppers, they are still mourning.

YW, Walks...hope he enjoys it...!
And, lol, no, I didn't exactly hop on and off....More like baby-stepping on and off, followed by my hubby rolling the chair on, securing it and moving on...lol...but it sure was an efficient way to travel. If we go there again, we'll drive so that we can get to even more areas...walking along the little shops in Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, and the Arlington cemetery...and, um...an outlet mall!

"On the road agaiiiinnn!!"...yep, just caught a call from the sleep clinic in Parry Sound; hubby's got his appt on Monday for his over-night, and they suggested I accompany him since they have about 80 (!!) questions that need to be addressed, and apparently wives do a good job on those...
I hope our dear Friend is still in town on Monday and Tuesday!!!
Then on Wednesday our DD and her DH are heading off to Atlantis as her reward for being in the top 34 in Canada...so busy around here these days!!!!!
Gotta run!! Almost literally.....
