Gee no heat, frozen pipes - hope everything gets resolved.
We once lived in a very old townhouse where we had to leave the doors under the kitchen sink open at all times during the winter so those pipes wouldn't freeze... and the faucet on a slow drip.
Just after we were married, we lived in a fourplex - two levels with kitchen, living room and den upstairs, bedrooms downstairs.
For some STOOOOPID reason (isn't supposed to happen), the heat was shut off to the unit next to ours, the pipes burst.
I was upstairs and heard this odd whooshing sound - start going down the second flight of stairs and see this water just pouring in under the wall between our units - gosh, it was nuts!
Here, because it gets so cold, if a tenant leaves, the owner is supposed to take over the heat til the next tenant.
My mom is thinking of getting a US mailbox. I'm really hoping she does! lol. I'm sick of seeing cheap things on amazon.com and not being able to order (either S&H is too high or they dont ship to Canada). We're not super close to a US city but it's do-able every couple months.
I really, really want to get this for DS's 2nd birthday party:

We live in the country just about 15 mins out of the city. We have an old house and our backyard looks onto a farmer's field = zero protection from the wind. We usually run a heater in the room where the water intake is. One of our dear teens in their quest to retrieve something knocked the heater over which automatically shuts it off and didn't think to tell us or reset it . We are experiencing super cold temps in Manitoba so the timing is just perfect. I have my fingers crosses this doesn't turn into a nightmare.
And I love this idea for serving finger foods:
