Any wisdom on wisdom teeth extraction!?!

I'm having all 4 taken out in may sometime, and i'm freaking out.

My first mistake was watching a grusome video on youtube watching the actual procedure, 2nd mistake watching the after the surgery videos where people look like they are drunk and dont recollect anything that happened after the surgery.

I've got kids to take care of and im worried about how i'm going to do that, husbands can only help to some extent! i dont know what to expect, plus i need all 4 taken out because they are all growing wrong. UGHH

anyone went thru this, please let me in on some after care tips to make the ride easier on me and on my family!

OK so i had the surgery done on may 5th.

Wanted to be put to sleep (good thing too you'll find out why ..)

So the putting to sleep part was unlike anything i have felt, veryyy relaxing and kindda out of this world lol.

So i woke up and felt very drowsy, started to feel sore immediatly after i woke up so they gave me 2 tylenol 3s

SO got home and totally passed out for 4 hours, woke up had a yogurt drink , took some pain killers when back to sleep for another 4 hours.

NOW my 2 bottom teeth had to be removed more drastically because the way it was grown in. Bones had to be cut, stitches, to be very honest i dont know much beyond what i just typed and i dont WANT ro know!

Its day 3 and i'm VERY hungry, swelled up and sore. I dont want to take any more pain killers because i just pass out after taking them and i have kids to take care of today (husband went back to work).

Now the only thing i'm worried about is the after effects of this surgery, what kind of damage was done ....if any?
No major headaches so far. but i do feel presure in my jaw when i bend down to pick up something.

Don't worry. I had mine done all at once + 1 other molar my impacted teeth had grown into and I was wide awake.

Your husband (or a friend) will have to take the day off you'll need him before and after. I suggest schedualling the surgery for a Friday morning if at all possible.

Eat a big breakfast before the surgery if you're not going under. If you go on an empty stomach the freezing in the amounts you're going to get can have a bad effect on you, causing shaking and jaw clenching. This leads to your enemy - swelling.

Ask for some valium, you take it an hour before the surgery. This provides two things - you'll literally not care what's happening while the surgery goes on but you will remember everything which is much better then the other sedation methods and allows you to recover WAY faster. Also it keeps you relaxed which makes the surgery faster, and reduces inflamation.

The doctor will probably give you T3s. I only took 1, immediately after the surgery. This meant I was pretty groggy in the afternoon but again that means you relax, you don't clench your jaw, your blood pressure stays low, these are important for preventing swelling. I had someone stay with me until the swelling completely wore off and the T3s wore off (about 4 hours) under my doctor's advisement.

After that I started taking Aleve every 4 hours around the clock and using a disinfectant mouth wash. I was able to eat soft and non chewing foods by that very night and was fully able to take care of my kiddo on my own and fine for the rest of the weekend.

I had 4 of my wisdom tooth taken out 2 years ago.

If you don't want to see the "gruesomeness" chose where they put you to sleep. I had 2 more options of having them "freeze" and not feel the pain or laughing gas. I personally chose where they put me to sleep.

After the surgery, you will feel all "woozy" ... and you'll walk like a really drunk person, so you will need someone to pick you up and drive you home at the end of the extraction.

You will be Given Tylenol 3 and a "medical" mouth wash to rinse your mouth after eating. and when eating, you are only allowed to eat soup, jello or really soft things and stuff that doesn't get stuck in the hole where the teeth got pulled out so the body can heal and close it properly.

After the extraction, you might want to have some company for the first 2 - 3 hours

I made the mistake of not getting put to sleep
2nd worst experience of my life, since all 4 had to be taken 2 were impacted.
They told me i should be fine with the freezing...
Id completely reccomend being put to sleep.

Im not going into details as I know ur freaked out, but dont expect to eat anything but soup and icecream for about 2-3 days

I had all 4 of mine taken out at the same time. Mine were growing sideways and would never come out. It was my first being put under and I was nervous and it didn't help that like half hour before I was supposed to get it done I was called into the room and they were like your mouth is small so we may have to wake you up and put a tube down your throat. Luckily they didn't have to. But since my mouth was small my teeth had to be cut into 4 pieces instead of 1/2 and that took a lot longer and I ended up swallowing a lot of blood which I came back up after the surgery. As for the pain I ddn't really feel any. I got T3's but they do nothing to me. I took one and went to school. The only thing that bothered me was that when eating my jaw was really sore so don't get food that needs to be chewed and buy a cheap bag of frozen veggies to put on your face. Bag molds to your face so it numbs it all.

Just had my last wisdom tooth out last week (a lower one that had its roots wrapped around the nerve...had to wait until it emerged further to make the surgery less problematic).

that just totally freaks me out, i heard how you can get permanent nerve damage if they hurt our nerve that means noooo lower working jaw .. LIKE SERIOUSLY...

Seriously, a good surgeon can crack out a wisdom tooth in a minute or two if it is emerged and uncomplicated.

I'm hoping for one of those!

no using straw??? i'm addicted to tea so if dont drink it for 24 hours i get CRazY head aches , i'll have drink it with a spoon then i guess...

You got them all out seperatly is my surgeon CRAZY to do it all at once!?

i SOOO want to go under but i dont want to be hungry all day... i think i'll choose going under.

did the disinfectant mouth wash sting really badly? are you talking about something like scope mouth wash or is it dif?

mine are all out except one if partially covered which i know is NOT good. Also have an infection in one of them. Apparently they are out but i was told they are growing wrong??

I was reading about how 35% of the population dont ever their wisdom teeth come in. WISHING i was one of those.

The thing is i have never had teeth related pain EVER! not even now with the infection going on, and that just makes me scared not knowing how that part of the face would hurt.

hun its going to be fine i got all 4 pulled out in exactly 3 min it took 45 sec to pull out 3 and 2 min and 15 sec to pull out the 4th and thats because the root was crooked and it doesnt hurt one bit i just hope you have a really good dentist afterwards you have a bit of numbness and what not but it all goes away the next day *hugs*

DONT FREAK OUT!!

It will be okay!! I had all 4 out when i was 18 and i was finE!! I ate icecream (gelato) right after... but i was super goofed up for the first few hours.... they gave me morphene(spelling) .... and i didn't feel anything because i was put under....

dont drink with straws... that can cause dry sockets.... ( which equals ouchy pain)
for dinner that night i ate mashed potatos and mashed up chicken!!

knowing that you have kids... maybe pre make some dinners that you can just stick in the oven...
make up some pasta sauce and then just heat that up and through some water on for noodles ....
this being said just in case your out of commision for a couple days....

can your mother come over or mil? or a good friend to help out with the kids for a few days?

you wont need help long but just while you feel all goofed up on T3's.....

I didn't have surgery, just had two wisdom teeth extracted at different times. One split so that was a bit of a bugger.

Were I to get four out at once, I definitely would want to be put under...

Im also getting my 2 bottom out...they recomend I get put to sleep bc of the way my nerve is shaped and they will have to drill...er I dont want to know lol
