Maybe you are like my sister.. she hated her 20th bday, she thought 20 was old , she never wanted to be past 19. .. in her 20s she was diagnosed bipolar and it made her life challenging until she died when she was 50. I hope nothing like that happens to you

There is comfort in nostalgia due to having maybe a less cynical view of life or fewer responsibilities or some definite teen memories of spending lots of time with high school friends at the movies, dances or other events>time that seems very hard to keep after high school graduation, moves and relationship changes (marriages, etc.).

John Hughes movies in the 1980s--my teen years and nostalgic time even though I did not experience dating or some other teen matters raised in the movies. I did relate to the feelings in the movies.

OK-what's great about being older and wiser?
At least we have libraries and Internet access to find out more information about why we are feeling or acting older.
Before you had to know someone who knew or had a book or knew of health care practictioners unless they happen to be into alternative health remedies or kept old country folk medicine remedies.

I recently read in Vitality magazine that dry eye may relate to a drop in Vitamin D! That is something we can correct. So why are eyecare specialists keen on pushing saline or salt solutions to provide expensive tears for dry and aching eyes? We may as well chop onions and cry out as the sulphur gas mixes with oxygen right on our eyes and not pay extra for those tears.

Perimenopause-estrogen drop can affect how skin feels. I've experienced itching during sweaty days in summer for a couple of years now. This week, the winds seem to be drying my skin even more. So I've decided to buy a lotion made just for mature skin that will help relieve that feeling. To be continued!

One thing that I have noticed-when I moved into my 20s and 30s, I did not really feel like I was seen as adult female among my older cousins and aunts. There is a generational gap plus I am not married or with children like most of my older female relatives. There also is no discussion really of who can call whom by first name. So it can be irksome if a relative decides to make a nickname or shorter name for me without asking me first if I mind. My 40s have put my backbone into regular duty--some people/situations/relationships just don't last long if they put me in a bad place or make me do all the accommodating without consideration for my needs and wants.

I retain a fondness for reading printed pages (books, magazines, newspapers) due to early interest in reading. Plus there were a few years without television or cable tv, so books took me somewhere without cost.

Swedish seniors have a practice called death cleaning or a habit of decluttering during senior years so as not to burden family after death with things to deal with. https://globalnews.ca/news/3799362/s...lf-help-craze/

In North America, we have a partial decluttering practice-it seems to be purge time when we don't want to continue a pursuit or have things due to health changes (i.e. cannot handle things as well or sight changes make fine handiwork too hard) or change in relationships when a move or work or family situation comes along.

-I get an allowance every month
    -I have my own pad
    -I don’t have a curfew
-I have a driver’s license and my own car
-The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant
    -I don’t have acne.

@walkonby -like that new term! For a second, I read Senator (as in appointed politicians with lovely perks plus a salary) in your post. Sounds like you are living well and in living colour now!

We have to mind what's on the stairs and on the floors nowadays. Today's occupational therapist column on stair safety from the Toronto Star:

    https://www.thestar.com/life/2018/02...loved-one.html

I think I will revisit the websites that sell bright caution style adhesive tape for stairs and also non-slip mat (not memory foam) options for bathrooms. I'd like the kids' interlocking foam puzzle pieces to provide a safe floor space but I don't know if they'd stay on tile without some kind of backing tape or rubber undermat. The main bathroom floor is without a mat for now given that I don't know who stained it two weeks ago. Don't need extra cleaning chores...

At least we can earn PC Optimum points at Shoppers Healthcare stores for all those living aids to help with sitting, moving and bathing! I make a point to read the sales flyer when one is released to see if there's something on the want list might be on sale.

I know in Hamilton, ON there are fall prevention classes and chair-fit type classes but I have not seen this kind of training class that the Dutch offer their seniors. It seems more like what one might see in rehabilitation.

Biggest problem aside from vision is footwear in my household. The folks don't have the best traction on their shoes or slippers.

If you go to Moen's Canadian site for homecare items, each item is linked to online retailers. I have confirmed that Shoppers Home Healthcare has the suction soap holders but not the shower holders. I intend to get the soap holders to help make items easier to read in the main bathroom. Still have to find a plastic rack to hold shampoos but not over the showerhead.

Pm-ing a member ( you know I mean you @Lynn49 ) and listing the details of how to use the incredibly easy Metro coupon offer that is part of the Mega Miles Promo BUT kicking yourself that you forgot to mention the coupon date!!
It has to be redeemed between March 22- March 25th, 2018 ( 3 days only!! )
So the good part about getting older is having fun people to bother every day!!

Knowing that Sharon Stone cuts her own hair (and Helen Mirren does too) made my Friday yesterday!
