Yesterday, the Rick Mercer report showed his visit to Saskatoon for Malanka, Ukrainian New Year's.
He tries to learn to dance at the rehearsal, then 'performed' at the show.
I knew my sister met and was interviewed by him that evening, and she made the show!
She's at just after the five minute mark, in the black Ukrainian blouse. (She's three years older than me; no, we don't look alike at all...) Very cool that she got on!
Her daughter dances with a troupe here, but not the one featured at that Malanka.
You can watch it here if you like, the full show.
* NOTE - ADDED YouTube on Post #6 below of just the Malanka part.

Oh Natalka!! That was exciting! I so love his show, he is just so damn likeable and funny! Your sister seemed natural talking on tv, no dear in the headlights look. lol.
Ukrainian dance has always been a favourite of mine, (my MIL, her heritage), when I was a young girl, my Ukrainian friend influenced me even then.
Thanks for posting!

Natalka! I thoroughly enjoyed watching the clip! Thank you for sharing. This is actually the first time I have watched Rick Mercer
, he is hilarious.
I noticed he kept saying, these are the nicest people, which made me think wow it must run in Natalka's heritage then!!!
Happy New Year!!!"There are more important things--friendship and bravery...."

Didn't the beach boys sing a song 'I wish they all could be Ukranian girls'?

I missed the show last evening so was happy to be able to view the video. I thought about you too when he mentioned Saskatoon in the previews I saw on t.v. Usually watch his show every week. There isn't anything that he won't try to do, that's why I love him so much. Very intertaining.

Well, I tell you, my sister is loving her 15 minutes of fame, lol! I know Rick talked to many people that night, and it's awesome they chose her to put in the piece.
Most common comment she's getting - how she makes him look tall (she's barely 5'2"), lol!

THANK YOU, Natalka, for posting this video!! It sure brings back wonderful memories
of those "two Christmasses" and "two New Years", the dancing, the costumes, the parties,
the carolers! What an idyllic way to be raised...I wish I had kept up the traditions with our
kids.
Your sister looks like such a pleasant lady..."something simple"..yep, that'd be my speed, too!
So cute...tell her we all enjoyed her 15 minutes of fame!
I think I'll hop over to youtube for more Ukrainian dancing and singing...I'm suddenly feeling
very nostalgic.....

Awesome!
My sister and I went to the Nov 13th taping of Rick Mercer for her birthday and I got him to wish her Happy Birthday in between. It was fantastic! Though my sister wanted to kill me at the time I'm sure I made her life because she is addicted to Rick Mercer and I think secretly she was hoping for something like that LOL!Last edited by roseofblack25; Thu, Jan 24th, 2013 at 12:41 AM.

If I had a bucket wish list living in Saskatchewan for a couple of Summer months would be on there. I went by on the bus a couple of times and LOVE SK its so pretty ,and checked up on Rick he's from Newfoundland and well maybe he got that feeling that you where all nice like people from home. P.S. never been to Newfoundland could put that on my bucket list if I had one .
