I need 8+ but can live off 6 -7 but any less for more than one night and I am sick to my stomach. Most would think I have the flu, but it is lack of sleep.

DH laughs at my sleep patterns. I very seldom go to sleep before 2 a.m. and like to sleep til 10 or 11. If I`m really tired and fall asleep before midnight, I wake up in 2 hours or less and can`t go back to sleep til about 7 . Every couple months I stay awake all night then get back to my usual pattern. It almost killed me when I had to get up at 4:30 to drive DH to work.

I need 8+ as well, otherwise everyone should tread very cautiously. I can function on as little as four hours per night over short periods (a week or less) but I live with a perpetual headache.

madchives!! You are both ends of the extreme eh? Twenty hours all at once or one? That could cause problems. Hope you find a nice middle ground in that area. I wake around 3:30-5:00 every a.m. no matter what! Working or on holidays I have that inner clock .......it is a gift ....some people refer to it as overactive bladder, but I call it my gift!!

You sleep for 20 hours at a time?! That can't be good for you haha.
I usually average 7 a night, but I work odd hours so I usually sleep 3am-10am. Better anyway, I find i'm always most productive right around 1:45am.
I've always wanted to try a polyphasic sleep schedule (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphasic_sleep) where you only sleep a few hours a day, but break it up into 20minute naps throughout the day. Apparently that's all we really need anyway, because the majority of our 8hours is falling into REM (the good stuff). Sounds interesting to try...imagine all the free time you'd have! (to spend on smart canucks )

Oh how I wish I could do this but if I do not get my sleep it is not pretty. There are many days especially in the summer (better known as our busy season at work) where being able to get a few less hours of sleep would be amazing, but I know I will pay for it in form of lack of sleep flu which will result in day(s) off so I am actually further behind.

I'm SO jealous of people who can sleep. I've been an insomniac since I was a teen. I used to have trouble falling asleep, and now that I'm older, I have trouble staying asleep.
At night, I sleep maybe two - 1 1/2 hour sessions. I then nap in the afternoon (thank goodness I can now, never used to be able to).

Weekends depends anytime between 11pm-1am and usually up by 730am (bc the dog wont let me sleep later haha) but I would be up by 8am anyways.
