Oh, I speak english, Nova Scotian, and can read and speak a bit of french. I also can understand Newfies and Capers but not so much when they are drinking.
So jealous of your multilingual family JulieJolie! that is an amazing atmosphere for Maile to grow up in!

Happy Friday! I am still hoping one more package will show up soon but if not it's just an extra item so I'll pack and be ready to ship next week. Don't want it to go too early
No one on here (this train any way) is in Southern Alberta are they? Looking at the pics and it's crazy! Hope everyone is ok.

Ok, I'm a goof... Why oh why do the Robins feel the need to pro-create and teach their young to fly in my front yard?? Long story, feel free to skip it, but just letting you all know I'm the biggest sucker!
Last year a Robin decided to build a nest in the tree in front of my bedroom window. The tree is maybe 6-7 feet tall, one of those ornamental things. I mean it was great I got to watch the eggs hatch, and see the little ones, but from the time it was built I was worried as two neighbourhood cats always hang out in my front garden, under a bush, BESIDE the tree. Long story short, came home one day to an empty nest. Two days later passerby's were in my front yard at about 9pm having found a baby bird. Knowing the two cats in the neighbourhood would be by, I sorta went into mother hen mode. It couldn't fly so I didn't want to leave it. I scooped it up and brought it inside, found a box, and made the BF go outside in the dark with a flashlight to find worms. (He must really love me) Mushed them up and fed them to baby. (I should have made a video, 3 inches from the bird and the beak just opened wide) Went to google and after reading, found out the bird was a fledgling, and this is part of how they learn to fly and fend for themselves. Now.. I'm guilty, but can't just leave it in the open. So.. brainwave was to use the empty composter, but baby in for the night, and hope mamma comes by. Sure enough, next morning I see momma bird hopping down inside the bin. I rig up a whole little circus in the yard, a sorta fenced area to keep the cats away, but let the bird out of the bin hoping he will learn quick! Off to work I go. The BF comes home at noon and I text him to check on my little baby... says he can't find it, but realized it wormed through the hedge and is now in the neighbours yard. Apparently he tried to move it back, but he ended up chasing it, and lost. Who knew little robins ran so fast??? Lol. Not a great ending.. when I got home no bird to be found, but heard from the neighbour some lady with a stroller saw it in the yard and picked it up and took it home with her. What???? I was devastated, the poor momma bird... she was hanging around for days.. chirping, I just about cried. I worried the little guy would die if these "people" weren't smart enough to read up on it.
Jump ahead to present day... birds have been making a racket in the yard again since the weekend. They are waking me up at 5am. Just now there was a huge ruckus and I saw the little black kitty in the driveway. Uh oh.. I have that feeling. Open my front door, screen door closed, and my cat is at the window like nobody's business. She's all freaky and I'm like what?? Sure enough, right on the door step almost against the door is this years baby Robin. Neighbourhood cat is like 20 feet away, but has not seen it yet. You've got to be kidding me.. I feel like I should put on a cape for Captain Rescue.. Out I go, in my PJ's, with a box.... just about to reach down and pick it up, and whew... this guy can fly! Not well mind you, but he made it up to the hydro line with Mom right behind him.
Sorry for the long story... but really, why my yard? I'm the biggest softie when it comes to animals, even if it is "nature" that he might not survive. There isn't such a thing as bird repellent is there? Lol.. I would love for them to try someone else's yard next year.. give my poor heart strings a break!

I should be packing but I'm freaking out.... I haven't been riding too many trains lately, but have been on a few of CLB's. I have come to the conclusion that CP does not want me and CLB to be buddies. I just got back from getting this mornings mail (needed a packing break) and BOTH train envies were in the box, the envie for the Bakers was all ripped and in a plastic bag....the other one I don't know why? I am just sick to my stomch about it.
I am expressing them out to her as soon as I fix the damage..

Hi guys just hopping on for a second. These floods are awful. My brother in law was working disaster relief in High River, An and is now missing. I have a cousin and his family in Cochrane and no one has heard from them. We are under a local state of emergency right now and are close enough to the river that we could be evacuated. I will catch up when i can.
On the plus side all I have left to do is the homemade gifts.
Think dry thoughts for me everyone!

They found him about 10 minutes ago. His vac truck has been swept away in a surge. He is being airlifted to university hospital. I finally heard from my cousin as well they got in their van last night and started driving. They are safe in Saskatchewan. I am going to go now to help at the evacuation shelters. What a damn nightmare

Thinking about you too Cheribomb! I hope that your family is safe! Please keep us updated so we know that you are safe! My son works for the County of Lethbridge he is pretty busy right now! I was in Lethbridge yesterday afternoon and they were having parents pick up their children from school. I am hearing the news on the radio every hour and listening to all the alerts it is horrible! Our 1/4 is right next to the Old man river but we live high up though so it shouldn't affect us.
So glad that your family is safe! Hugs to you!!!Last edited by Norma Mackay-Rempel; Fri, Jun 21st, 2013 at 12:49 PM.
