My best friend lives in Calgary, and she lives right down town in one of those high-rise apartment buildings. Her power was cut this morning at 6am (her time) and they're just waiting to hear what the deal might be. I've been checking in with her as much as possible but she is keeping her phone off to conserve the battery. It makes me so nervous, all those people in those high rises. Her building is 30 stories... that's a lot of people, and that's only one building. Granted they are above the water line/flood, but still. time to camp out I guess.

Really hope everyone is ok, and that anyone here with family and friends in the area have been able to contact them to make sure everyone is safe and sound.

The rivers have crested. They had some transformers go down and they can't get at them to repair them yet... plus there are some additional power outages. the water downtown is 2 meters deep in some places... if she is up high in a building and safe she will be ok.
The Saddledome is flooded up to the 14th row. The stampede grounds are completely flooded. They are trying to say that the stampede will go off without a hitch but I don't see that happening in 3 weeks.
The really good news is our water quality is good. People don't do well without water. There are also has been great police presence and shelters to help those with no place to go to. The still have room for more people at the shelters so things dispite the are going as well as could be expected.

I've been following this on the news through yesterday and today, and have sure been worried about SCers in and around Calgary and southern Alberta - hoping you are all able to stay safe.

This is what I have put together for red cross. They are putting out pleas for food and personal hygiene items. I do not have a massive stockpile but i still managed to pull together about $250 worth of stuff and we still have plenty left for our use. Only thanks to this site am I able to do this... the things we share really matter. Thanks to everyone for helping make this possible.

Likewise Alicia; my BFF lives in Calgary....but in the NW area, so she's ok.....however, I haven't heard from here for awhile, so not sure if she's lost power.
I hope everyone stays safe.....and thank you to all that are helping out.

Cheeky, the only information I can find on the LD site is that they are a place to give financial donations to the Red Cross, not items...

This is crazy! Saw the hockey arena is flooded! I lived in the west side of Calgary where the country starts, my area won't flood. BUt I feel bad for the folks who live in the valley!
