On Sunday dinner time I was checking the facebook groups I belong to and notice someone posted a whole bunch of items at the curb free for the taking.....I was so excited and convinced - okay begged a little to get dh to drive me with his truck I even bribed him with DQ to drive me . So anyways I got 2 pink velour wing back chairs in great condition (no stains, tares, rips) I was so excited as we already have 2 exciting pink wing back chairs . Our living room/dinning room are an L shape and it doesn't help that the fireplace is smack dap in the middle of the long wall which is super ackward anyways.....our 2nd hand loveseat has seen better days and so have the 2nd hand (lol) oversized chairs which are so comfy but are looking pretty ratty oh but comfy will be making their way to the cottage. So my plan after countless hours on pinetrest (I know) I have decided that the best scenario is 4 chairs in this case wing backs, now all I need to do is get craft in making a circle coffee table or ottoman (I'm leavning more towards the ottoman - extra seating). So anyways I was over the moon with my 2 free PINK wing backs and dh scored 6 pretty nice wood chairs with velour seats & backs (1 is staying at home at the front door to put your shoes on) and the other 5 will be making their way this weekend to the moose camp. I love free stuff especially when it's just what you were looking for or needing...the timing could not have been better.

I was quite lucky when my kids were young.. we literally had a playground right in front of our place.. (well still is.. LOL) they played on that for hours. plus they had bikes that amused them.. we did baseball when they were a bit older.. (it was free through a church).. they didn't have interest in it for long.. my son played 'street hockey' with friends..
they kept each other good company.. now.. its all about working on things, bikes, computers, cars.. the only thing i find expensive for them.. is food. !!

Needed strawberries for my breakfast smoothie so grabbed a small bag at Giant Tiger since it was on for .99 cents. Rang in at $1.49 so SCOP cashier was going to just give it to me for the sign price but I nicely said I would have it for SCOP since the sign was posted a the cash.

I am in for the challenge jasperanchar. My goals are;
1. Try making my own pita bread, I have had a recipe on the fridge for a month that I want to try.
2. Cut more processed food out of our diet, especially lunch meat.
3. Start exercising more regularly
4. Christmas organization, i have bought a lot so I need to designate what I have and for whom and make a list of gifts i still need

I totally feel your pain. My 11 year old son needed almost all new hockey gear this year. My husband insists on new stuff too....something to do with his always getting used equipment when he was a kid We do the Sport Chek hockey skates deal. If you buy junior skates there and return them with the receipt the next year, you get 50% of the purchase price back. That has enabled us to painlessly upgrade his skates every year. This year we bought $300 skates for $150. Sadly this is his last year as he is in the last junior size. His feet are huge. He will outgrow me height wise within the next few months. Your post reminded me that I still need to make a dental appointment to get him a new mouth guard. Sigh! He is signed up for power skating starting next week. More $$$$. It is worth the money though because he loves hockey. Keeps him from gaining huge amounts of weight and seems to keep his asthma in check. Oh and you are lucky to pay only $600 for registration. Ours is over $800. Haven't paid under $650 since mite.

My daughter goes to a Catholic highschool and needs a bunch of new uniform items. Fortunately she seems to have stopped growing so she will get a few years out of the stuff I buy. She does not like sports. Her thing is art which can be pretty expensive too. Whoever did that survey that said Canadians can raise their kids for $3500-$4500 never had kids in hockey!!
I will be thrilled when September ends and I can start saving instead of spending.

No Sports Chek here. I miss Sports Check. They used to have awesome sales. Only Canadian Tire and a local sports store, which is $$$. I had to buy him size 10.5 skates this year. Yes, my 12yr old (and he just turned 12 like 3 weeks ago) wears a size 10.5 mens. He hasn't been in a junior size for a few years now. Did I mention he's been on a HUGE growth spurt?! This year, we sized him at Canadian Tire and then in the end ordered from thehockeyshop.com They were free shipping and so far I've been impressed. I almost ordered from prohockeylife.com but the shipping was going to be "free" plus an extra $50 because of where we live. I'm hoping that since the equipment is men's that he'll use it for a really long time. I bought the skates a half size big to account for a little more growth too.

$600 is because he's house league. If he did development squad it'd be an extra $225 plus all the travel.
