    Happy long weekend!

    What plans do you have?

Monday is Saskatchewan Day, and it's a stat holiday, yay!

However, we're not doing anything special.
It's a shame, because there is SO much going on in our city: RibFest on the weekend; The Fringe and Exhibition over the week, then Folkfest.
Can't afford to go to any of them.... bummer!

I'm preparing to marry a couple on the beach on Tuesday. - Going to church - hosting my db for supper on Sunday - cleaning out drawers and reorganizing the "junk" room - enjoying our backyard- visiting mil in nursing home - taking her for a walk around the garden - having insomnia - reading "Eat, Pray, Love" - drinking chamomile tea to try to get sleepy so I can go back to bed - When you are retired, long weekends don't seem any different than short weekends, sometimes, except some stores are closed. I've noticed that a lot of people I've encountered are REALLY looking forward to this long weekend. I always thought that this was a Canada wide holiday. I just found out a few weeks ago when we were touring the Black History Museum in North Buxton, near hear, that this holiday was actually initiated to celebrate the emancipation of slavery in Canada.

Since it's a civic holiday, different provinces name it differently - and even different municipalities within a province - such as in Ontario.

It's called Regatta Day in Newfoundland, Saskatchewan day in SK, British Columbia Day in BC, Natal Day in Nova Scotia and PEI, Simcoe Day in Toronto, Colonel By Day in Ottawa and Joseph Brant day in Burlington, ON, etc.
    Heritage Day in AB.

In Saskatchewan, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories it is a statutory holiday.
Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island do not oblige employers to offer holiday pay on this day, thus making it a civic holiday in the legal sense.
Quebec, Newfoundland and Yukon do not recognize it at all.

avon, I wasn't aware of the connection - here's some info with the link

the abolition of slavery which officially took place on August 1, 1834. Some communities across Canada call this “Emancipation Day.”

My brother and his wife moved out on friday [my other brothers birthday, lol]. So i've been cleaning up the bathroom they took over [2 yrs of nasty nasty NASTY messes.. I cleaned their old bedroom and the bathroom from 8am until 2pm.. yesterday.. my thighs, knees and back hurt so bad.. my dad was helping me set up their old bell reciever so i can watch tv in my room now..I had to move my table and I bad a weird noise and he laughed and asked if I was trying to give birth.. >.< I do a weird thing when I've over exerted myself; hold my breath and beardown kind.. its weird but I make a weird noise... i dunno.. i'm weird in general, lol].

My dad hand to cut off the bolts for the toilet seat because they were so rusted and black..ugh... disgusting. She dripped like clay facial mask cream all over the floor so I hand scrubbed the floor about 3 times.. Washed the shower 4 times... cleaned the sink 10 times and hand to get a metal rod to dig out her nasty long black hair out of the sink..omigod.. what a nightmare...

But I just keep saying.. ... THEIR GONE! I GOT MY BATHROOM BACK..YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!

So I'll be washing the floors once more and the sink.... Moving all my yarn boxes and rubbermaids around and trying to organize everything.. but that's going to take a week or so..so ya, lol.

Oh Ohhhhhh I know what my dad wants "US" to do on monday.. the dump is open so we're going to 'borrow' the work one-tonne truck and haul out all the damn garbage bags my brother left [I'm so no going through it to sort paper from plastic.. trust me.. it's a hell no! especially since they left a used condom in one of my good mixing bowls last March]. So I'm going to have a long morning of running up and down the stairs with 6-10pound bags of garbage then emptying out the old freezer of the food that's too old to eat so we can finally get rid of that beast of a machine [my parents got it as a wedding gift from my dads parents in 1982, lol].

Maybe I'll go into Fenelon falls today and buy some absolute vodka and have my first drink since I was 20 [I emailed them and they said their products are sulfite free woohoo!].

I'm probably going to play some animal crossing new leaf with my online pals then delve into skyrim dragonborn...or watch daria on PRV i taped last night..hmmm.....Or continue slipstitching my nephews crocheted blanket together...his birthday is aug 25 and I've barely started and I'll need to crochet a border and the thing's probably going to be 5x6 feet so...yeeeeeeeah.. I may want to get cracking...lol.

I had big plans for this week-end. Trip to Montreal or Toronto etc....

Then came Friday night I started to have stomach ache which lasted till yesterday afternoon
DS also thought that a kick in my belly after dinner time was fun.

Since we're not going anywhere, we're cleaning windows today and were invited for dinner tonight.
Tomorrow, just chillax. Probably do some gardening if it doesn't rain.

soaked up the suns rays yesterday in the backyard ( Veranda Beach, my fav place!), tidied a bit, usual chores, then an early evening movie ( 2 Guns! lol very funny), dropped off belated b'day card/gift and had a late night coffee/dessert with sis....no plans set for these next 2 days.

    a whole lotta nothing...and it's nice.

Because Ontario doesn't recognize this as a stat holiday, I've never had much interest in calling it a "holiday weekend" since many people still get stuck working. I dunno. I t doesn't seem as special when there's no stat pay to be had.
