I called walmart and spoke to a manager. She sounded as disgusting as I did and when i described the lady and the car she knew exactly who i was talking about. She said she was going to handle it.

I think its possible law enforcment wouldn't help with the pregnant/child spot... I'm guessing this is a courtesy offered by the store not required/covered by law. I definitely could be wrong though. Anyone tempted to quickly use handicapped parking without a permit , be warned its a $300 ticklet..

I don't think they can. Mall and store parking lots are private properties and a complaint has to be made directly to the owners of those properties, the police and/or parking enforcement don't have much say in little things like parking spots being misused.
It annoys me also to see this happening, thankfully I don't have to rely on those spots any longer as my two are grown enough now that I usually park quite a distance from the store. Too many idiots out there with wild doors that like to put dings in my car, probably the same idiots that park in the kids' parking

ahhh that awful -don't get me started on handicap -my mom had a sign cause she had a heart condition among other medical problems and once I saw a guy park in the handicap and run into the medical building in the pouring rain -well I left a nice note on his car asked a police officer later about it and he said you have to be sure -not much they can do on private property

I was once at the mall with my daughter when she was less than a year old, and it was snowing so I wanted to bein a spot close to the entrance.
I watched a young guy and his GF park in the family spot with no kids. I was so disappointed i wrote a note saying he should be ashamed of himself, and one day when he or she has kids, they will understand!
i'm too non-confrontational, i didn't actually say anything to them directly, i just tucked the note in the wiper.

This is a store courtesy, not a law. No one can enforce it. It may not be moral, but it is legal. Maybe you should ask your MP about turning it into a law?
I wonder if the real problem is not enough handicap parking spots, so seniors tend to overflow in these spots? No excuse for those who don't have a handicap sticker (regardless of age. Yes, young people can also need handicap spaces).
And definitely no excuse for an employee. If you can stand for an 8 hour shift, you can park further awayLast edited by torontogal12; Fri, Oct 18th, 2013 at 10:11 AM.

I'm at the point now where I don't really care. I usually park beside the cart return and put the kids into the cart right away. Makes life easier. But believe me when I was pretty much 9 months pregnant (due mid-december), the size of a blimp and struggling through an icy parking lot to get my shopping done , I wanted to SERIOUSLY hurt the people who use those spots out of laziness.
Other users are correct, there's not much that can be done. It's not a law, it's a courtesy. If you park in a Handicap spot, it's illegal and you can be fined but not with the pregnant woman/small children spots. It's sad that people use them when there is no need! Especially an employee! That's just insane. Hope they got reprimanded!

I do find it strange to read the stories of the stores who did nothing. Aside from the moral perspective, it's bad business.
Stores are always trying to sell to pregnant women and new mothers. They know moms generally control the food and toiletry spending in the homes. That's why there's so much advertising geared directly at mothers. Look at all those Walmart back to school ads featuring the different "types" of mom. If they make mom happy, mom will return to spend her money there. And what better time to start making her happy than before her child is even born?Last edited by torontogal12; Fri, Oct 18th, 2013 at 10:56 AM. Reason: OMG spelling error!!!

I have a handi-cap tag, and have had one for a long time now, BUT, if I reguired a spot, and the expecting mother/small children was empty and the handicap spots were full, I would never think of parking in one of them, I would just go down further. They are there for a reason, but alas, we will never be able to change the way some people think, so instead of getting totally stressed and letting it ruin your day, it's easier to just find another spot.
I used to get so stressed if I had to stop of a prescription at the drug store after treatment, and a handicap spot was available and I really needed it, but some fool felt it easier to leave an empty buggy in the spot instead of returning it. REALLY, in the handicap spot????? If a person is parking in this spot, they obviously are having a bad time, they don't need to get out, return the buggy you so rudely left there, then get back in their vehicle and park it. It would be easier to just park down further.
We will never be able to change the actions and behaviors of strangers, and we don't want them to ruin our amazing day, so don't even bother with it. It's easier to walk carefully and hold tight to those little ones and enjoy them, then get our panties in a knot because of some fool.We all need a little sunshine every now and then

I see the pink spots used as overflow from the handicap spots as well. My mom has one, my dad needed it before he passed away and my respite client uses one as well.
And the pink spots are courtesy here as well (not sure if that is universal?). The other problem I think people have is, is that it is very arbitrary. When are your kids to old for them? Does it tend to matter how many kids you have? Do pregnant people trump those with infants in carriers or toddlers in strollers, or vice versa? Etc. And, I have been in a few discussion over the years, that I shouldn't use them. I wasn't pregnant enough (I was on bedrest, and was allowed limited, Ex had to get me a chair), my kids were easier too manage then being 9 months pregnant (said the women when I had 18 month old twins and a newborn in a carrier), etc. I will still occasionally use them, even though my kids are 10, 10, 8, 6 and 4. The 6 year old has aspergers and if he is having a bad day (and bad day with autism..., unless you have a child with it, you don't get it) on top of a 4 year old who is...nuts. I will park close. It rarely happens, but I have done it, when I need to. I usually prefer parking next to the cart holder, so I can load these two into the cart, without trying to manage them in the lot, plus the other 3... etc. you get the idea. We all as mom have crazy days. The spots say expectant moms or parents of young children. It's arbitary, and too few spots for the need , as well as too few spots for the handicapped spots. So, there is always gonig to be someone who can't park there.

I wish they would put the cart corral near these parking so when i get my kids safe and strapped in I don't have to leave them and walk 10 miles away fromt he car to put the buggy away
i usually end up parking closest to the corral as it is better for me in the end.Last edited by Anna Michele; Sat, Oct 19th, 2013 at 09:07 AM.
