I think my landlord needs to check into a psych ward, she is UNSTABLE!
I posted before about our issues with the laundry. Well, I toughened up and said fine, kinda reasonable. Last 2 months, she has been doing her laundry almost EVERY SINGLE DAY that is 'mine'. And if she has a 2nd load to do on 'my' day, and isn't here, I will start mine. And twice, she has asked me 'why' did I start when she had another... Ummmm.........cause it's MY day?
I never really said anything about it, though (except the 2 times she asked why, and I said that it was my day and she only said 'oh' and walked away).
Well, 2 nights ago, she put a paper (or in her words, 'notice') about 'Please do not drive through the grass to park.' The parking spot she gave us (which is in our lease), is only halfway paved. Most of our neighbours have a space like this, but paved all the way through to the road. She stopped at the sidewalk, and even curved it, so unless we go in diagonally, and block her car in, it is IMPOSSIBLE to park. My DH went to work (since he works nights) and when he camte home, he woke me up and said she had posted spiked fence rails in the grass. And on top of it, she had written an ADDITIONAL add-on to her laundry 'notice' on the wall. Stating I could now only do laundry AFTER 5PM! But still, only those 3 days! Problem 1.) Wednesday is the day I do majority of the laundry. Both of my kids are in daycare, so I can get 2-3 loads done, with no interruption (so much easier when a 2 year old isn't 'helping'...lol), most Saturday we are out early morning-6 or 7PM (we go spend the day with my in-laws, or it's just our day to do 'family things') and 3.) My husband has to have laundry done on Sunday, before he leaves for work, because that's when we get his work uniform done, some days I might not have time to get it done! So besides all those issues, it's just plain UNREASONABLE. I've already been staying up some nights, just to make sure my kids school nap blankets and snow pants are clean for school (they are sent home on Friday's).
So, anyway...this is where the UNSTABLE part comes into play..
The 'notices' happened Wednesday night/early morning Thursday. Thursday, after DH came in from work and told me about the spikes and new 5PM crap, we got the kids to school. We came home, I waited for her to leave and take her kids (usually she's gone before us, but I was so upset, the kids and I were ready super-fast), and when she got back, she came down to get her laundry (that she had started on Wednesday afternoon/night, 'my' day for laundry), and I opened our door. I said, "__, we need to talk." "You saw it?" "Yes, and I'm sorry, but that won't work." She's smiling, but not as much by this point..she asks me, "What do you mean, won't work." "That is not acceptable." So she told me I could just have it done early morning, instead. I said no. I said, "It is unreasonable. Why do you even need 4 days, when you have less people? If you can't get your laundry done, with less people, and more time, how do you expect me to?" And she started saying how it was her house, so she could do laundry when she wanted. She's starting to scream a little at this point (I guess because I finally stood up to her). I'm a little bit upset, but not at the screaming stage (I admit, I got to that point..) And I'm just saying, "It's unreasonable. We pay you rent for a reason. We wouldn't have moved from a nicer area, bigger and cheaper place, if not for the laundry." DH is starting to get really mad/upset, and all of a sudden, he's holding up 4 fingers, going, "Why do you need 4 days? There's less of you! Why do you need 4 days?!" And he is getting louder. So I grab his hand, and I say, "Stop, go to bed, you need sleep, just stop." And he walks away, but by now, my landlord is screaming, "You stupid American ****, with your ugly pink hair, you think you look so good, but I look better. You need an education. You're so stupid. I have so much money." (The money thing is, I'm assuming, because I said we pay rent.) She said all that, more and worse (some stuff about how my kids are 's', because they can't even talk.. Yes, my kids are in speech therapy for a BIRTH DEFECT you heartless B****.........) She's SCREAMING all of this, after I have closed our door, and she's standing at the top of the landing. I actually called the cops. Who directed me to the non-emergency number, who directed me to the tenant and landlord board people (who, btw, informed me she has more infractions than I thought). DH called into work, and we actually went looking, and got approved for *2* apartments (well, 1 approved us yesterday, the 2nd didn't inform us until this morning, but we had already decided on the one that approved us first, lol). I was even up-front with both places, stating why we were moving, and let them know what would be said when/if they called her for reference. They were both flabbergasted at the way she was reacting/treating us, and the first apartment we looked at, the supervisor (while I was filling out the application, we talked), suggested called the Board. Told her I did, and she said, "Good, people like her should never be rent out."
The place we're moving to this week, I let him know, and asked to make sure we were CLEAR on laundry (I made sure EVERYTHING I could think of, I asked this time), and he said laundry shouldn't be such a big deal for her...
Anyway...THAT'S NOT ALL. Besides all that, she should win PARENT OF THE YEAR (please note the sarcasm).
Since she has been doing her laundry on my days, and 1.) It's the kids school stuff day, 2.) We're going to my in-laws in the morning for a holiday event held by their HOA, and 3.) We don't feel 'right' even staying here when she is (so we've not been home, really, except after picking the kids up the past 2 days), I decided...I was going to do my laundry tonight. Yes, on a Friday night. None of her laundry in sight (other than what has been sitting in the dryer all day, from last night). Started at 7:30 (so even if she started a load, 90% chance she wouldn't have finished before tomorrow, since she won't come down after 10PM, usually, and she's slow to get to the dryer part....) Around 8, she knocks on our door. I ignore it, my kids and I are watching Frosty, enjoying ourselves before they go to bed. Knocks a 2nd time. I ignore that. 3rd time she knocks, I finally answer. I ask, "Yes?" She asks me if I 'know what I'm doing'. I replied, "Well, yes, my laundry." She says I'm 'not making things better'. I tell her I'm not trying to, I have a week left, I let her know that yesterday. And then, I just shut the door. She knocks again. Ignored. 2nd time. 3rd time. 4th time, I give in and answer. She asks me why I'm doing 'this'. I tell her I have plans all day tomorrow, and it doesn't seem to matter when she does her laundry on 'my' days, why should it matter when I do mine on hers. Shut the door. She AGAIN knocks.. Her kids are standing on the stairs, witnessing all this. I open at the first knock this time, just because I am so fed up. I tell her, "This is my time with my kids, we are watching a movie, I am not doing this." And she starts screaming again! About how she's 'soooo much better' than me, how I have a lazy husband (just because he works nights so HAS to sleep during the day, does not make him lazy), how I'm crazy for doing this over laundry. I look at her (probably with a really incredulous look on my face) and go, "I'm crazy? Right. I feel sorry for your kids." And shut the door. She screams a minute before, then starts walking up the stairs (still screaming), and with her kids witnessing all that.
Holy crackers, that was long..................
And can I just edit to add...I don't know where this is all coming from. Like the stupid American 'wh*re* and calling my kids 's'... I mean, I watched her kids for her. I let her cry on my shoulder. When she told me her in-laws were being 'mean' to her, and contesting her husband's will, I told her they were evil and such, patted her back, etc etc.

Yikes. I'm glad that you're getting out of that situation. How very sad she is behaving - irrational and petty!

Glad you are finding some other place to live!
Til then, if I were you, I'd just find a nice laundromat somewhere - yes, it will cost, but your peace should be worth more.

We won't even 'need' to do laundry here. Our lease doesn't even start until the 1st, but our AWESOME new landlord gave us the key today, and said consider it ours. I told him we wouldn't be moving in this week, since DH day off is already over (Friday and Saturday), but if it was okay, could we just move in boxes while the kids are at school..and he said we can just move in whenever we want.
So we'll be moving MOST of the stuff this Friday, and then the moving van for furniture, Saturday. So we can stay Saturday night (or if my MIL can't/won't watch the kids Saturday night, we may stay with them, if I have lots of boxes around. Don't want it to be harmful to them.) If I get it mostly ready and safe, the kids can stay with her and us stay there, or they can stay with us.
Honestly, in a way, I am relieved. I've hated it, not been happy, for months. While moving is stressful, it's a relief to know it's OVER.

So glad to hear you are soon done with this horrible situation. I hope your landlord gets the help she needs to resolve her issues, cope with her grief and move forward with her life. You have done all you can and need to look after your family and yourself. Glad you are getting a fresh start in a new place.
So many coupons....so little time!

Oh dear me. So happy for you that you found a new place to call home as where you are is not a healthy or happy place to be. You handled yourself very well considering your situation. This world is full of strange people... my favourite saying lately is... more trees less a _ _ holes. Good luck to you and yours.

Whoa...that is crazy alright. I hope the move goes smoothly and you will be able to sleep better in your new place. Your current landlord might have lots of money but money can not buy happiness.

She sounds like my last landlord. I won't bore you with the details but it was such a relief to get out of that horrible situation. That kind of stress is unnecessary but I think that people like that feed on drama.

Have your former landlord put into writing that you don't owe any money and that there is no dispute regarding repairs. Take pictures of everything and get a receipt for the return of keys.

"When she told me her in-laws were being 'mean' to her, and contesting her husband's will" I'm thinking she hasn't come to terms with her husbands death yet,and is creating drama with you (subconsciously) to provide an outlet for all the negative emotions she's repressing. However, you deserve a safe, happy home for your family and aren't responsible for her past trauma.Moving is the best way to put it all behind you.Hopefully you won't have to have any further contact once you've moved.Wishing you a very Merry Christmas in your new stress free home

she sounds like someone who shouldn't be a landlord.. it's not the easiest thing to deal with.. it's not for everyone.. she has to expect some inconvenience for the $$ she's accepting.. you have a right to do laundry if you paid to do laundry, you have a right to a parking spot if you paid for a parking spot.. she can't take these things away.. it's against the rights of a tenant
some people are not cut out to be landlords.. i knew a woman who got angry at her tenant because she wouldn't use a specific type of laundry soap (shared washer and her kid had sensitivities to some times) i mean really you can't expect your tenant to buy a specific type of laundry soap! because it suits youWhen life hands you Edward Cullen...throw him back and demand Eric Northman....
