Ukrainians mark International #PeaceDay with symbolic march between war memorials









Hundreds of people have gathered here beside the monument to Ukrainian soldiers who fought in the Afghan-Soviet war.
Along with them representatives from the UN and Ukrainian civil society organizations will take part in a march dedicated to World Peace Day.
This is a symbolic day for many Ukrainians. The government along with its western allies have been working to achieve peace in the country ever since the start of the war in the east.

For Ukraine this global day of ceasefire is a timely reminder of the alternatives that exist to violence. This year's theme "Partnerships for Peace - Dignity for All" highlights the importance of all parts of society to work together for peace.
And this is something we witnessed for ourselves as hundreds of people including school children, university students, businessmen, and war veterans came together to march in unity.
After laying flowers at the monument, crowds of people began to slowly march towards Ukraine's museum dedicated to World War Two.

NATO chief demands Russia withdraw from Ukraine



NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg has welcomed the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine but also warns that Russia must withdraw its armed forces before peace can be established.
Stoltenberg is visiting Ukraine to witness the signing of a new military doctrine identifying Russia as an aggressor.
Speaking at a ceremony in the West of the country Stoltenberg emphasised that, while a 'fragile' ceasefire was currently holding, Russia had to do much more to bring the conflict to end.

"The ceasefire is mainly holding and this is of course encouraging because that was not the case before. But still the situation is very fragile. Russia continues to support the separatists and provide them with weapons, with different kinds of equipment, with training, with forces." Stoltenberg said.
Ukraine's President Poroshenko said that in order for peace to last Russia must give back Ukraine control over its border and allow elections in the wartorn Donbas region to be held under Ukrainian law.
"For having peace and stability, for the de-escalation of the situation we need to remove any Russian, and Russian backed terrorists from Ukrainian territory. We should close the border, we should launch the political process and election under the Ukrainian legislation which will meet the standard of the OSCE. The election should be free and fair." Poroshenko said.

Film about Ukraine's Revolution of Dignity
takes top prize at Toronto Film Festival

'Winter on Fire' regarded as a monument to patriotism and unity of the Ukrainian people

"Winter on Fire" takes top prize.
The documentary about Ukraine's Revolution of Dignity has won anaward at the International Film Festival in Toronto.
The film won the People's Choice documentary award
The movie's director Yevhen Afineevsky thanked viewers for their support and recognition of the film as an important historical monument dedicated to the patriotism and unity of the Ukrainian people.
Afineevsky said the documentary would be available to millions of the Netflix subscribers next month, thanking the company for believing in the film and agreeing to show it to 65 million viewers around the world on October 9.

Zaporizhia festival - farmers of the city and region gathered to show their harvests and preserves, and to show their clever skills with fruits and vegetables.

Theme was Slava Ukraina.

Canned vegetables are not just about getting them ready for the winter, but a symbol of the Ukrainian nation that survived the Holodomor, living in this rich land.

To also give to the soldiers at the front, because most of the time they are eating watered down stew and soup.

22.09.15 09:32First monument to Ukaine's Heavenly Hundred opened in US

Unveiling and consecration of the monument honoring the memory of those killed in Euromaidan events in Kyiv in February of 2014, jointly called the Heavenly Hundred, as well as all who gave their lives for Ukraine, took place in the United States.

The monument has been erected near the Ukrainian Orthodox Saint Andrew church in Bloomingdale, IL.

The consecration ceremony was conducted by Filaret, Patriarch of Kyiv and Whole Rus-Ukraine.

The opening was attended by Governor of Illinois Bruce Rauner, Congressman Peter Roskam, Ukrainian Minister of Finance Natalia Jaresko, and Consul General of Ukraine in Chicago Larysa Herasko.

Ambulances from Canada

Wednesday, September 23. KYIV — The Canadian paramedics and representatives of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress presented four modern ambulances with equipment and medicinal products for the Ukrainian hospitals.
Deputy Defence Minister Yuriy Husyev, Canadian Ambassador in Ukraine Roman Vashchuk, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vadym Prystayko, Representative of Euromaidan Canada Kateryna Velinga, Director of Military Medical Department, MoD, Maj. Gen. Andriy Verba, chiefs of medical hospitals, etc. attended the official ceremony.
“These ambulances will be delivered to military hospitals in Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Vinnytsya,” Mr. Yuriy Husyev announced, thanked the Canadian party for support, “Canada has been supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the ‘anti-terror’ operation; and these ambulances prove it”.
Ms Kateryna Velinga remarked, “In Canada, we are impressed with Ukrainians supporting their soldiers in their fighting for freedom.” She stressed the diaspora was ready to join efforts of the Ukrainian community in Canada, government and specialists to help Ukraine and people.

This is the first part of the Ambulances for Ukraine project. Canada will send 12 or 16 ambulances soon.
Maj. Gen. Andriy Verba explained the Ukrainian hospitals urgently needed these vehicles because a lot of Ukrainian ambulances were obsolete. Moreover, these the Canadian ambulances are of high quality and provide opportunity to perform surgeries and reanimation of WIA during evacuation.

President appointed new Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada

The President appointed famous TV journalist, politician and civil activist Andriy Shevchenko to the post of Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada.

At the meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador, the President underlined strategic importance of the Ambassador’s tasks in the country, in which “the Ukrainian factor plays the biggest role outside our country”.


The President wished Mr. Shevchenko to do everything to enhance and develop Ukrainian-Canadian relations: “I am confident that your enthusiasm, political experience and willingness to work will create a powerful basis for the further efficient improvement of our relations”. The Head of State emphasized that today’s relations between Ukraine and Canada were at a very high level of mutual trust and support.


Petro Poroshenko reminded at Canada had been one of the first countries to provide an immediate military-technical assistance to Ukraine in conditions of Russian aggression against our country. According to him, Canada is one of the strongest and most reliable advocates and partners of Ukraine in the world.

Andriy Shevchenko expressed gratitude for confidence and assured the President that he fully understands the responsibility of his new mission. He also outlined the main priorities of his work: political support that will guarantee Canada’s further leadership in the international coalition aimed to assist Ukraine, military-technical cooperation and free trade area that requires real investment projects.

U.N. alarmed after ordered out of Luhansk

The United Nations humanitarian aid chief Stephen O'Brien voiced serious concern on Thursday that authorities in Luhansk in eastern Ukraine are demanding that all U.N. agencies immediately vacate the city.


"I am alarmed by news that the de facto authorities in eastern Ukraine have ordered U.N. agencies in Luhansk to end operations and to leave the area by tomorrow, 25 September," O'Brien said in a statement. Eastern Ukraine is controlled by pro-Russian separatists who reject the Kiev government.


"I am also extremely concerned by the situation regarding accreditation and registration of international NGOs (non-governmental organizations) in Donetsk," he added. "A decision by the de facto authorities in Donetsk on the U.N.'s future operations remains on hold, and all U.N. agency operations have been suspended."
