Captain in the medical service of the 44th Artillery Brigade Bohdan Ryzanych was laid to rest in Ivano-Frankivsk on April 5, 2017. He died from a gunshot wound on April 3 while on duty in the vicinity of Lysychansk, Luhansk Oblast. He was 55 years old...

Bohdan was born January 3, 1962 in Kalush, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. He lived and worked in Ivano-Frankivsk, where he devoted 30 years to saving people’s lives in the Trauma Ward of Hospital No.1. He was an honest and respected doctor and human being.
In 2017 Bohdan enlisted in the Armed Forces and went to the front, where he thought he would be most needed. He served as chief doctor at the medical station of the Antitank Artillery Battalion of the 44th Separate Mechanized Brigade.
He leaves behind his wife and son.

-Front line Easter basket to celebrate the "Easter ceasefire"

21-year-old Artur Latchenko, call sign “Schumacher”, was laid to rest on April 5 in the village of Bilsk, Poltava Oblast. He was killed on April 3, 2017 in a mortar attack on Butivka Mine near Avdiyivka, Donetsk Oblast. Such is the “Easter ceasefire”…

Artur Latchenko was born November 30, 1995 in the village of Bilsk, Poltava Oblast. He graduated from the local school and then attended the Poltava Higher Vocational School, where he studied carpentry. He and his friend planned to manufacture furniture, but they never managed to realize their dream. Artur was fond of volleyball, motorcycles, and table tennis.
Artur was called up for military service in April 2015, and in April 2016 he enlisted to defend his homeland against the enemy. He served in the 8th Company of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade. Artur was a happy, positive, good friend who always lent a helping hand.
Artur was to return home very soon, and he was counting the days to demobilization. He and his girlfriend had wedding plans….
He leaves behind his grieving mother, sister and fiancée.

-Yuriy Bezyazychny, soldier in the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade, was seriously wounded in the war zone and spent several months in a coma. His family hoped and prayed that he would recover, but his heart gave out on April 7, 2017. He passed away without regaining consciousness in the intensive care unit of the Zaporizhzhya Regional Hospital.

Yuriy was born on April 2, 1967. He lived in the village of Chornomorske, Odesa Oblast. After completing high school, he enrolled in the Kharkiv Guards Higher Tank Command College. In 2012, he began studying at the Faculty of European Integration at the Odessa Regional Institute of Public Administration.
Yuriy was an intelligent, focused and strong man, a man of honour, who devoted his whole life to serving his homeland.

Velyka Subota (Great Saturday), the third day of reflection and prayer in the Ukrainian Easter cycle. The traditional taboos on merrymaking and eating meat are carried over from the previous days. However, there is joy and expectation in the air as streets fill with the faithful carrying beautiful Easter baskets of all shapes and sizes to be blessed at the nearest church. Depending on the region, some families have their Easter basket blessed on Holy Saturday, while others have it blessed on Easter morning.

Paskas and Easter convoy for soldiers in Donbas war zone blessed in Kyiv



The Head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC-KP) Filaret blessed Easter eggs (krashanky) and paskas (Easter breads) for Ukrainian soldiers currently deployed in the Donbas war zone. Patriarch Filaret also blessed Easter kits assembled by volunteers. The event was attended by chaplains, volunteers and servicemen.

Archbishop Agapit Vyshhorodsky also blessed about 10,000 paskas for soldiers and Donbas residents at St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery in Kyiv.
