Oh Sally! I`m so glad that you and yours are safe but what a terrible thing to have happen to your community! Good luck to everyone in moving forward!
Being a teacher, I`m wondering about schools. Any of them damaged? The kids will be heading back soon and hopefully their lives can be as normal as possible.

Hi all,
I have been a member for a while but don't get a chance to post that often.
I am from Goderich. We had an F3 tornado go through on Sunday afternoon. We are still in a state of emergency, we just got our power back on but many in town are still without. Please send your thoughts to everyone here. We are cleaning up, and are very lucky.
The storm struck quickly and many people had no idea it was coming as there was a sunny period before hand.
Please keep us all in your thoughts.

Oh, goodness...we've been watching the news coverage and it's just so horrible to see! The clean-up is going to take some time, as is the rebuilding so I'm glad the gov't is ready with some money, but jeepers....such a terrible time for everyone!
Glad you're safe...keep in touch!

I've heard the hardest part is transportation. People want to help out etc. but they have no transportation (and we don't have public transit).

Im kinda on the fence about that. People who want to help and really mean it are there. Lots of people can just post they need a ride but they dont actually want to go.
If theres a will theres a way kinda of thing.
Lots of people from surrounding counties are headed there everyday, theres lots of opportunities.Last edited by Sally888; Tue, Aug 23rd, 2011 at 01:12 PM.

United Way of Perth-Huron, announced earlier today that a Goderich Tornado Relief Fund has been created. After carefully considering how United Way of Perth-Huron could best support recovery efforts after the devastating tornado this past Sunday, it was decided that this would be the best way to help. “This is one of the worst disasters to ever hit our area. People’s lives have been turned upside down and it is our job to assist in any way we can. United Way specializes in raising money and distributing funds to those who need it most.”
To assist in receiving donations, United Way of Kitchener Waterloo & Area, with sponsorship from Libro Financial in Kitchener-Waterloo, has generously offered to support via-text donations. Text donations can be made in support of the Goderich Tornado Relief Fund from August 23 to August 31. To make a $5.00 donation, please text “UCARE” to 45678.
100% of all donations made to the Goderich Tornado Relief Fund will support the community of Goderich.
Ways to donate:
By Phone: 1-877-818-8867 (toll-free)
Online: www.perthhuron.unitedway.ca
Mobile: text “UCARE” to 45678
In person: The United Centre, 32 Erie St., Stratford, ON
Email: [email protected]
For persons interested in volunteering in the effort to help, please contact 211, a support database that connects people with resources in the community.

The first picture you have here is the plant that my husband worked at...whats left of it
Thanks sally for all your work and getting the word out how people can help. There are so many people working together and cleaning up...the streets are clearing fast but there is so much work to be done on the buildings yet....its going to take a long time...
